Previous Games Vs Charlton

After having a tidy out today, I have found 2 other Gravesend Vs Charlton programmes in a dark dusty draw, to add to Monday's one.

These were Jimmy Jacksons Benefit Match on 2nd August 2000 and the other on 5th October 2001.

On the Charlton team on the latter programme, I noticed the team was pretty much the same it is today, give or take a few players. This included Scott Parker, Claus Jenson, Jonathan Johansson, Chris Powell etc etc. Does anyone know/remember if these actually played in this match or if it was just written in the programme so fools like I would look back and so 'I saw Scott Parker at Stonebridge Road' etc.

Lastley in the JJ Benefit Match Charlie MacDonald was their number nine, something I never new. Scott Parker was apparently playing then as well, as was former Gills keeper Jason Brown and a rather unluckily named Danny Shittu (also playing in the match in 2001.)

Just interseting referennces I felt like sharing.

Charlie Mac and Scott Parker are good friends and keep in contact to this day.

Keeping up the theme of Previous Match's against Charlton it was saying in the programme that the two teams met way back on the 23 of September (mine and Liams birthday) 1953 to mark the floodlights opening at our ground. It also said we were the first ground in Kent to have floodlights.

I saw one of the programmes on ebay about a year ago but unfortuantly I failed to win it. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

The 1953/54 season saw the club making a major innovation as the first club in Kent - and one of the first in the country to install floodlighting and a whole host of friendlies against both Football League and foreign opposition attracted huge crowds. The official opening saw First Division Charlton thrill a 7,000 crowd with an exciting exhibition of football in a 4-1 victory on 23rd September 1953. That apart, highlights were few and a disappointing 15th position meant an exit for Bill Moss and the return of former Northfleet United Bill Whatley as manager for the 1954/55 season.

You would think that there would be a website with this sort of information wouldn't you
