TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR are sleeping giants and eager to realise their potential. They've not been crowned champions of England since Danny Blanchflower's side won the double 44 years ago. They're one of seven ever-presents in the Premier League, but their best placed finish of seventh in 1994/95 is lower than the best of all the other six who've been permanent residents of the big money League.

The Londoners made a six match unbeaten start last season, but have not won their opening fixture in five years. A 3-1 triumph over Ipswich at White Hart Lane in 2000 is their only opening day maximum in eight seasons. Spurs head to the south coast seeking a first League victory on the road in 10 attempts since the 0-2 eclipse of Norwich on Boxing Day last year.

Tottenham's last League maximum at Fratton Park was 2-3 on 3 November 1956. In the subsequent 48 years, the Londoners have made only five visits, drawing two and losing three.
