Every generation needs ......

Recommended Posts

Now, heed my words, every generation needs an Art Brut!! They are the most fantastic thing since space hoppers. They are so unashamedly pop it’d make Abba weep. It’s art-pop at its most bestest, front man Eddie Argos has widely been compared to Jarvis Cocker. And with his geeky but intelligent charm you can see why.

The band take the stage playing AC/DC’s Back in Black whilst they wait for their enigmatic singer to come forward, and sporting a new moustache he leaps on and they fire straight into Formed A Band. This song is so awfully great it borders genius, you can’t help but love it. Pointing to the rest of the band and with the crowd going bonkers he preaches “formed a band/we formed a band/look at us/we formed a band” and claims that “we’re gonna be the band/that writes the song/that makes Isreal and Palestine get along”.

Pausing for a moments breath they all then hop skip and jump through My Little Brother where he tells Pete Doherty to “STAY OFF THE CRACK”. And that’s it, everyone goes wild as we hear about first love in Emily Kane, having trouble ‘getting it up’ in Rusted Guns of Milan where he confess “its nothing to do with what I’ve had to drink/its more to do with the way I think/I know I can/I know I can/I’m fine when I’m with my own hand”, how rarely our pop stars are this confessional.

This is what Art Brut do so well, turn perfectly normal every day feelings that people are afraid to express in to an art form and with this we’re pogoing like maniacs to Modern Art, and why are we doing this? Because “MODERN ART/MAKES ME/WANT TO/ROCK OUT”!!

As further treats we get to hear old favourite These Animal Menswe@r, a song about how Britpop saved his life. Half undressed and cutting a leaner figure Argos leaps into the crowd and the rest of the night passes in a flurry of sweat, sun shiny pop classics like Moving To LA, the NME bashing Bad Weekend and the magnificent Good Weekend.

Finishing up their set and leaving the stage, much to the disappointment to the crowd, they hold fire at the sidelines and give in and come on for a rampaging encore of Bang Bang Rock & Roll, 18,000 Lira and close with Art Brut Top of the Pops.

Art Brut make me want to ROCK OUT!!!
