Tonights Game...

Before we see 125 threads moaning abt the referee, yes he was bad and bad being generous but we should've had the game wrapped up at 2-1.We had 2 or 3 great chances to win it and unfortunately didnt take them. Still, thought it was a great game and we were back to the Fleet of old, closing down quickly and generally "up for it"....Thought Tim Cole made a huge difference at centre half. Must congratulate the fans behind the goal. Thought they were superb tonight in their supporting of the team and was great to hear atmosphere like that at Stonebridge Road....Thought Sturgess had his best game for the Fleet tonight and Hatch was awesome 2nd half (just let him score someone!) One thing, where was Craig Wilkins???

The ref was aweful, one of the worst but as you say we should have just slightly put one of 3or4 chances away. The most encouraging thing was the fact that if Telford came back and had a replay i dont think they'd walk away with 3 points this time. We were a different level of class tonight, looked every bit the full time team and played like we wanted it, well done every player out there and also Andy Ford, what a turn around from telford game on saturday.

Did anyone see the dodgy away fans heading towards the plough on the way out, one went up to the police and started having a go!! anyway hope there wasnt any trouble and Well Done to the Lads once more.

According to Medway Today, Wilkins has a groin problem.

As for tonights game - yes, we should have taken one of those chances at 2-1 to win the game, but it just wasnt to be - Che rushed his chance, Tostao just couldnt get any power in his header (mind you, just how did the ref and linesman make that a goal kick ??), and Che's header was just unlucky - on another day that would have gone just inside the post rather than outside it, or Liam would have been there that fraction earlier to turn it in.

Defensively, we generally gave very little away - a couple of cases where we backed off and allowed the Doncaster forwards to run at us, apart from the goal in the first half and the one they scored in the second half was just about their only chance in that period.

Never mind, it was a huge improvement on our performance on Saturday, and one of these days, these chances will go in, and someone will take a real beating.

At least, only Forest Green of those below us won tonight, and with Halifax losing as well, and Stevenage losing last night, we actually go up 2 places.

Incidentally, I agree regarding Sturgess - thought he was excellent tonight - & to be fair, it was virtually the first real opportunity he has had to show us what he is capable of for a full 90 minutes.

If we continue to produce performances like that, and add the finishing touch, we will survive this season.

Well done once again to all the team for tonights efforts - just ensure we repeat those against Northwich on Saturday, and hopefully we can come home with 3 points.

Totally agree with the above .

Nobody has commented on the fact that each time Doncaster got to that point just to the left of the D outside the box a trip wire triggered off a buzzer in the refs head and they got a free kick .Bizarre .

( As was the choice of 4th official !!)

Great team performance against cynical full timers .

Well, once again we have been denied what we deserved from the game by a side with more clinical finishing than we have.

However, I'm certainly looking on the bright side - considering the injuries we have (I know we keep banging on about it, but it is very significant), we gave a fantastic performance, one that was a vast improvement on the Telford match. The commitment of the lads was superb, and if we had been offered a point at the start of the game, we would surely have taken it.

MOTM? Well, it's so difficult when the whole team plays well, but Liam (for his tireless running despite going down injured twice) and Macca (for his best performance since he returned from injury) stand out for me.

OK, we didn't win, but if we play with that kind of passion every game, we will surely continue to pick up vital points. While we haven't put too many on the board recently, we have at least broken up the defeats with the odd draw, thus preventing us from slipping into a losing streak, which we simply can't afford.

Altogether a great night - with superb atmosphere behind the goal that was the best of the season so far!

If we play like that for rest of season and next season and get better at taking the chances and to get Simon Parker to have a dig himself! (I swallowed my burning ciggie at that point!) We will do better than survive! we will stay in the top 6. Donnies played a fast paced game tonight and we brought it to them, my mate who is a dagger's man said that doncaster played like that at doncaster against them and hammered them (i think it was 4 or five goals). Great game, Great Atmosphere provided by the drum n Ken, good attendance, poor ref, Nevermind, lets get behind the lads even more and lets think up some more songs to sing and really get the fleet buzzing!.

What a splendid performance given 8 of the squad out injured and 2

loan players in the back 4. They were very lucky to get anything out

of this game, but we only have ourselves to blame missing so many

guilt-edged chance. We should have exposed their chronic lack of pace at the back consuderabley more than we did. I doubt if there is a slower back in the in entire Conference.

I am fully aware they are described as the Conference 'heavy weights' but I thought this was meant to refer to their very large support and high finances............not their waiste-lines ! They had some porkers

or what. Must be all that 'full time' eating.

Congratulations to Andy and the boys and we get our full team back I am sure we will rise to mid-table respectability, which given the abnormal number of injuries we have endured, is, quite frankly marvelous.

Lets get behind the team and enjoy the rest of the season.

Must go, boat departs shortly.

Lord 'LB' of Shorne.

P.S. Louis sends his regards.

In the form of: 1 2, 1 2 3, 1 2 3 4 - SODJE, with the drum for guidance. I dunno im sure it'll turn out alright.

Sodje is a really nice bloke - spent 20 mins chatting to him at Dartford Station Tuesday night whilst he waited for his train home.....so at least I got to see a small part of the Fleet on Tuesday night!

All I know is that he is loving every minute of being at the club.....and what the nearest station to where he lives is!

We spent most of the time talking about the game I missed against Doncaster.

He did talk me through his debut goal when I asked him about it though.

Like I said, extremely nice bloke to talk to - seems to fit in nicely with the rest of our players - and another who enjoys his football and wants to do well for the club.

Whilst i agree with the waistline bit, Conference football is played more in the head than the body, just look at how that fat man Beesley controlled the game for Stalybridge last year.

Agree that we need to take chances, unfortunately Che was pumped up prior to his two chances after the ref was conned into booking him.

Look at the difference when you do have class strikers..Daggers 2 chances and put them just inside the post. At Woking we did well but should have had 7 and not let them back in it.

Dare i say we need a Portway up there with Che.

Parker did lack confidence and should not have left it for Hatch as he will turn out to be a good investment in front of goal.

Personally I would have Kwashi and Hatch as subs...wind them up for the last 20 minutes and watch em go.

Best thing about this season is we still play well with so many injuries.

The whole back four probably wouldnt figure in the first choice 4 (or 5) + Bentley and Owen would probably sit in midfield most weeks.

Think we are doing well and the Conference has 22 good teams , there wont be any walkovers like last year! [color:"brown"] [color:"red"]

Everything agreed with, most comments about line-ups etc. Only one thing, I would definitely play Tostao from the start. He can do things no-one in our team can and if he gets as long as he can on the pitch he can destroy teams. But i do also see the point of having him as sub, difficult decision. Wouldnt want to be AF, but at the moment with so many injuries it makes it a bit easier to just play the ones with head injuries rather than plaster casts!!

The problem is that teams seem to adjust to him at half-time and quite often he is less effective in the second half, so bringing him on as a sub would mean that there would be less chance of the opposition catching on to him.

We have not been as effective in the second half as the first. (See the confguide 1st half and 2nd half tables) so anything that can increase production towards the end of a match has to be good.

Tired defenders and then Hatch and Tostao come on. Sounds good to me.

Anyway, something will have give when Mark Bentley is fit again.

Very impressed with the lads performance against Doncaster......how did

Rovers keep 11 men on the pitch ??

Also, didn't hear a single moan from the crowd (unless it was aimed at the ref, the Doncaster players, or the small chap in the dugout who legged it onto the pitch for some reason).

Shame the game wasn't booked in for a Saturday....may have got a bigger crowd !...and did I see a Rovers fan run on the pitch after their ( undeserved !) equaliser ??....thought that was a £1000 fine ??

Cheers,

Basically dave i think we need 2 Tostao's. Anybody else know another Tostao? Seriously though i think your right, we need, maybe, either Tostao or Hatch to start and then the other to come on in the second half? Difficult choice that AF rarely gets wrong, with Simon Parker around for the time being i think he is similar to Tostao.

No they arent exactly the same. As far as anyone in our team is similar to Tostao i would say Simon is. I think Simon has more direct running skills but he does continually beat players with a drop of the shoulder. Tostao is simply silky on the ball, with twists turns he beats players rather than pace. So I agree that they arent exactly similar styles, yet they do tend to have similar end results. They can both beat players before (hopefully) setting che, etc up.
