We were not poo at all, in my opinion. Admittedly we started slowly and looked uncomfortable at the back thanks to their mix of height and pace. However, we began to control the game and created several decent chances. In the 5 minutes prior to half time we had them pegged in and ahd corner after corner and chance after chance. The referee allowed pushing and elbows to go in the build up to the last corner of the half and as the whistle went all hell broke loose. Why their 3 was not sent off is beyond. Christian was not involved in the argy bargy but we have heard he was booked for swearing. This seems unreal as how the ref could have heard him above us fans is beyond me. He also sent Steve Browne from the dugout but did not have the bottle to do this on the pitch. The second half was remarkably with Arlesley failing to use the extra man well. We had our fair share of chances with Veli, Spence and Barras all having good efforts from distance. The ref gave what I felt was a dubious free kick after 9:30 which they scored directly from. I felt Blake could have done better but I am a harsh critic of keepers. We did not deserve to lose and if only we could have capitalised on early chances would have won. The ref spoilt the game and whilst I see through amber and blue specs he was truly appalling.

Agree ref was dire. Worst I've seen, missed everything, and the half time incident only occured bcos he wouldn't sort out the elbowing/pushing that had been brewing for some minites Team battled hard in second half. That said, I don't think we've been playing well recently, so a loss was inevitable. My concern is that we arn't progressing at present --if anything we are now looking less and less likely to score--Bubb and Winston arn't a good partnership up front. Rumours abound about abust up between Browne and Hale, which if true, is bad news.

Fair enough Martin , it was just the info i got at the time . Told this morning we created many a chance but couldn't hit a cows [****!!****] with a banjo . Heard about the ref too , seems too many are very poor this year and it cost us this time . Oh well .

I suppose the way to look at this result is that it was better to lose last night than on Saturday. If we can win at Totton then hopefully a lot of confidence will return to the players and supporters.

Quick Summary:

Played ok against a tall strikers side without creating any real clear chances.

Referee incorrectly sent Metcalf off after the half time whistle and failed to send off their number three after he threw punches in the melee.

Second half, even with a man less we still appeared the better side due to Arlesey lumping the ball upto two seven foot strikers.

All in all, we certainly didn't deserve to win, but having Metcalf on in the second half would have possibly made the difference as he was very influential in the first half.

Still, Arlesey had the games better chances overall, and could/should have been 2-0 up in the opening 10 minutes.

Nice little ground, nice bar, good playing surface, just a pain in the [****!!****] to find.

Wayne, was not having a go just putting a different perspective. It was fair to say our finishing was not at its best. The real frustration from the game is that the ref ruined it and there is nothing we can ever do to combat that.

The lads need to put it behind them and comeback strong on Saturday. Come on you Rebels!

Because of work commitments I don't get to see the STFC very often, but as business took me to nearby Hitchin 'til quite late on Tuesday I though I would take the opportunity to see a game. I arrived at their impressive ground about an hour and a half before the kick-off and spent a the time in the bar chatting to their very friendly and sociable supporters. Obviously the result was a disappointment but I was more disappointed with the loutish behaviour of our supposedly adult following. The game was not a dirty one and we were equally as guilty for any fouls as the Arlesey players. To call the Arlesey team and management cheats is totally out of order, they were not responsible for any decisions made by the officials. But don't forget, the officials can only act on what they see and hear. If they miss an incident because they are unsighted then it will go unpunished. In this match both teams were fairly equally affected by the ref's decisions - he was not biased! One other point I would like to make; can there be a minimum standard of literacy before anyone is allowed to post messages on this site? I don't mean the spelling, everyone makes spelling mistakes, but the standard of English in some of the messages is appalling.

Well Ivan K nice of you to turn up. I notice you are not registered as a forum member, perhaps you should and then you can keep informed of what is happening at the club.

Both sides were fairly treated? Slough had a man incorrectly sent off and had their manager banished from the dugout for has complaints. I was standing behind the goal and saw the Arlesey 3 throw a punch and the 9 using his elbows. These (I am lead to believe) are red card offences. The referee ignored these incidents leading to the half time problems. Christian Metcalf also called out to the 3 asking him to confirm his innocence. Both the 3 and the ref ignored this. Also in the second half the Arlesey manager or coach was involved in a disagreement with the referee's assistant which resulted in the referee being flagged over by the assistant in question. Yet no further action was taken which seems odd. This is not equal treatment.

So if the referee was not biased we'll have to accept consistent incompetence for his display! He missed a great deal in the second half, even allowing for my own biased view. Not least of all a blatant handball that would have seen Ryan Spencer (?) clean through.
