FULL TIME: Purfleet 0 Billericay 0

Good performance as well in my opinion, we passed the ball really well and were only kept at bay by some stubborn Purfleet defending. Definately the better team, Essandoh had a couple of good chances and a goal ruled out for offside, Carthy was unlucky a couple of times, and Fewings had a good shot saved. No surprise that it was a 0-0 really, two best defenses in the league on show tonight!

It was "fleece the away fans day" at Purfleet, £8 to get in! Reckon 2/3 of the crowd was from Billericay......

Stalebuns lost 3-0 to Hayes tonight, Aldersh*t won 2-1 at Bedford, Sutton won 3-1 which I think puts them above us on goals scored.....

DJ Campbell from Stevenage. Think it could be an initial loan deal. Took a bit of time to settle into the game tonight, first couple of touches were poor, but then went on a couple of pacy runs with the ball to show some potential. Seem to recall he scored plenty of goals when he was at Chesham a few seasons back so could be useful. Looked quick, which is no surprise given that we've been looking for a pacy striker...

First of all 8 squids to get in was a joke. They can't complain of not attracting any fans to their ground.Thought we played well against a decent Purfleet team. The opening ten minutes we passed it about really well,Brennan playing as a sweeper was intresting.Thought Essandohs goal at the end was perfectly legit and D Campbell looked more than useful once he settled into the game.1.It was good to see us going for the win playing three players up front in the second half away from home.2.John,Penn,Kerrigan,Moore,Mcdonold,Williams and Brennan should all b praised as only letting in 4 goals in 12 games is a great defensive record.

Was it my imagination or was Willo pushing up in midfield? That would suggest we were playing three at the back with Brennan as sweeper. Interesting.

I thought we were the better side but we have to do better against sides that pack the defence like Purfleet (and Braintree). I know we came close to unlocking their defence but again, wasted chances!!!

And they did come close themselves. So I would agree with the thought that it was a good result tonight.

The 8 quid admission was a bit steep and again, the Town support was outnumbering the home support. It makes you wonder how Purfleet survive.

On the plus side, the Fleet burger was back (sadly missing from last years game) and still as tasty but really not a patch on our new steak, mushroom and onion in french bread from the new stall.

Anyway, a typical game at Purfleet.

Sorry to say newlodgeblue as much as it pains me that Essendoh's goal was offside as Cambell was in front of the defence when he headed it forward.

Same formation and team on Saturday against Yeading could be interesting - obviously an attacking formation that with a bit more luck would have delivered more.

Strange that there is only a mention of the different formation played last night, JJ in goal, back 3, Penn, Brennan and Mooro, wingbacks Mark Graham and Danny K, midfield Willo and Carthy with Richard Graham playing behind the 2 strikers Essendoh and Fewings. Worked in the first half where I thought we outplayed Purfleet but couldn't score. Second half was difficult as Purfleet had more of the play. For me, Mark Graham was playing far too deep particularly in the 2nd half. Richard Graham was not in the game at all. Shame we cannot play the same for 90 minutes. As for Essendoh goal agree with Mister T, definitely off-side from where I was standing.

As for as our defensive record is concerned I think we have to give credit to the whole team. Last year we gave too many goals away from set pieces and this year the whole team has defended at set pieces where I think Jamie Wallace has contributed.

Good game, and a game of contrasting prices. Finishing work and rushing down the A13, I checked my pocket for money having forgotten my wallet. £15 I thought, no worries - go home with change! There would however, appear to be severe inequalities in the Purfleet pricing.

Admission: £8 - Frankly a joke, no wonder they only have 50 fans

Programme: £1.50 - good value I thought, for a good read

Pint Lager, 1: £2.25 - for flat beer with a dash of flat lemonade seemed a bit steep at club prices.

Bacon in french stick: £2 - made my bloody night, good bacon, well cooked and a generous portion...but then...

Mars Bar: 50p - Whats all that about??!!

Seriously though, encouraging stuff from the boys, I thought we played some cracking stuff in the first half with Brennan spraying the ball around from the back. Also thought that special mention must go to Richard Graham and Danny Kerrigan, it looks like their left side partnership is growing with every game and although they faded late in the game, in the 1st half they formed a very dangerous team.

A couple of tremendous saves from JJ again saved our necks at the death and Roys goal was offside although the linesman was pretty late in flagging. Should be a rule against that, getting me all excited only to swiftly make me feel like a prat for celebrating(!)

The new boy.....is it Duncan, or DJ, or Duncan J? who cares because he looks a damn good player. First three times he was anywhere near the ball, he managed to fall over, then miss control and then rugby tackle a centre half. I must admit my head was in my hands at this point, my friend however reminded me that he could only get better..he did.

Only a cameo, but he is quick and very skilful, twice, his incisive runs through the heart of the Purfleet side created chances, one being the disallowed goal. Good start, whetted my appetite for more. He did look abseloutely shattered at the end though.

Good ovation for the boys at the end. Players and fans alike should be commended for the reception they gave each other.

i thought we completely outplayed a side that most think will finish top 6 this year...and deserved to win the game..we played some good stuff esp in first half and thought in the main we kept going throughout. think brennan at sweeper worked well as still had his distribution skills but also meant that willo could get back in the middle where a blind man could see he belongs. if we play 3 at the back again i might be tempted to swap the grahams over as i think richard is no where near as effective when moved inside. after some initial nerves the new guy did quite well and hopefully could be the pacy frontman option that we are clearly searching for. a pretty good performance all in all..n lets now hope for a good cup run
