Warning! Concerning Ground Catering

Red Neck

Recommended Posts

I was glad to see that we have new caterers this season, they have a far wider choice and the quality is better, but please be warned. At the Charlton game on Monday I queued for half an hour, just for a cup of tea. The service is incredibly slow, with three people serving no more than two customers at a time. With segregation maybe the strain on on the caterers will be eased, but still be advised for a long wait.

Suggestions:-

Eat and drink before you get to the ground.

Get to the ground an hour before kick-off and get your burgers and drinks before the game.

Let's clarify something first.

Are these new caterers leasing a franchise from the club?

If so, it is they who are running a business for themselves & as such should ensure they can meet demand.

They would certainly not deserve voluntary helpers.

If it were being run by the club for the club, then I'm sure that there would be plenty of volunteers to assist!

Just like you James GNFC, I pay to see the football, I also pay for the refreshments. Therefore, as a customer, I expect an adequate service. Supply and demand; if you supply a service in exchange for payment the customer can demand an adequate service in return. If they need help, then I'd be more than happy to assist, for a decent wage of course. Better still, a little more organisation would go a long way.

Hit the nail on the head.

The Queing system I noticed was very bad. If someone who was seated in the first half wanted to go to the bar at half time (as I was), the whole area was effectively blocked off from passing through, unless a kind soul let you through, and lets face it, that's quite rare. It's more a hope and barge.

The problem would be easily avoided if those queing ropes things were just put in place at say a right angle to the Catering van itself. It's not even expensive, and it would make everyone's life so much easier. After all for £12 (£6 for me <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />) you would expect it.

Fair enough if this was kind of a 'tester match' to trial the system in big crouds, but if this goes on all season, i will not be happy.

I would expect just the new one, which brings me onto the point of what are we going to do with the old tea hut?

I would suggest, as the tea hut is a brick building like the club shop, join them up - are they already? I never seem to notice...

If they already are, knock throgh, and the shop would be twice as big - space it really needs, especially if expansion is on the boards.

Also, get rid of the old burger bar, sell it to someone who's looking for a complete bargain, some money's better than none. Come to think of it the money gained from this could be spent on the knock down and refurbishing process of the shop.

This space where the burger bar was could also mean the grounds total attendance figure could rise by another 200 all so taking it to about 5200 when the other work is done.

Is that right? lol

If you are talking about the mobile burger bar I think you will find that it belongs to the previous caterers so it will be up to them to remove it.

I'm afraid not, as stated many times before the main limiting factor in our capacity is the ability to get people out of the ground in an emergency. (No of exits) so the removal of the burger bar will have no effect.
