Can you give me a synopsis on what is wrong with the American welfare system. I'm sure you are spot on - I guess this was on the Carter board - but as I haven't looked into it properly I cannot make an informed decision on how another country should appropriate their "cash".

Actually I didn't get it off the Carter board but people are made to work (in itself not such a bad idea) on the welfare to work scheme. Basically big companies get huge tax breaks by signing up to this, people get paid below the minimum wage and have to work off all the welfare they get, some working 15 hours a day in 2 or 3 jobs just to make ends meet!

 

I don't know why you think every social observation I have is via the Carter board, you're on there every day as well so should know full well what's on there!

So a company could sign up to this scheme, and they then pay less tax on thier profits. This means they are able to employ more workers, thus reducing unemployment ?
All sounds like a good scheme to me. If people are able to work, then they should be able to have the opportunity to do so. More jobs means that they have this opportunity. Why should able people live on handouts.

Sounds like a bloody good system to me.

Actaully it's completley the other way round, they use existing jobs which could be filled by people being employed by them (and the employer paying more tax into the coffers).

Companies don't think, fantastic we have tax breaks and slave labour with all that extra money we'll go out and employ loads more people (even if the positions aren't there), why don't they just employ them in the first place then????

People have the ability to work but the're are no jobs as everyone on the welfare scheme has them, it's a vitious circle

Fair enough, I'm sure you do know a lot about the American Welfare system and the generous tax breaks given to US companies for employing people on welfare.

 

I'm sure you have overlooked my question about how these tax breaks work. I don't know and after you mentioning it, I'm interested in learning more about this.

Tax breaks are tax breaks however you look at them, they benifit the rich and I don't know the exact details, no!

I do however know it's an unfair system that makes people poorer!
