HAMPTON & RICHMOND BOROUGH PREDICTION COMPETITION

I am organising a prediction competition for the forthcoming season for the Hampton matchday programme.

 

To add a little spice I am hoping to get one or two entries from someone representing each team in the Ryman Premier division to compete against those at Hampton taking part. I wonder if any of you on the meaasgeboard here want to represent Slough Town.

 

An update will be printed in most Hampton programmes and I will also send updates by email.

 

FREE TO ENTER - and there will be a small trophy at the end of the season.

 

All you have to do is predict where you think each club will finish, from position 1 to 22, this season, from the top of the table to the relegation positions.

Scoring is based on the difference between your prediction and the clubs

actual position in the League table.

e.g.

You predict Hendon will finish 15th and they finish 18th - you score 3

You predict Hendon will finish 18th and they finish 10th - you score 8

Your aim is to get the lowest score possible - when all clubs scores are added.

Maybe slightly harsh, Marcus but then this is Hampton we're talking about! I was going to suggest that we open our case for the prosecution by sending them a DVD of the Bryco Cup Final. Ian set up a prediction league which has a £5 entry fee attached (with half going to the STST), and which is aimed primarily at Slough fans. The Hampton fella has set up another aimed at fans of all Ryman Premier clubs. I'm sure he'll get entries from Slough Town just like he will from Windsor and Billericay. Calm down everyone.

Its just a bit of a blatent idea steal thats all- and if you look the guy has not posted anything else except that! And i take umbridge to his action (Luckily its not taking Uxbridge as thats far more violant)

But it's not as if Ian was the first person ever to have come up with a prediction league either. And the Hampton guy isn't collecting any money for a big prize or to benefit the club financially, it's just a small competition to put in their matchday programme. I guess we could do the same with Ian's (put it in the programme that is)

I would love to - but I think we could be on to a loser. Whilst copyright arises automatically the minute a "work" is created and does not need to be asserted it only relates to original literary, dramatic, musical or artistic work and only protects the expression of an idea rather than the idea itself. Sorry if my posting has upset you and particularly it would seem Mr DeMarcus. I honestly didn't know you ran a prediction competition - having seen nothing on the Ryman or Hampton message board about it.

Certainly not looking to steal your punters.

 

As I said just looking for one or two from each team to compete against Hampton fans - for what is after all going to be a free to enter matchday programme filler for us. In fact its costing me some cash as I'll be buying the trophy - its not from club funds.

 

Its an inviation only - if Slough fans don't want to enter (or anyone else for that matter) I can't force anyone to enter.

 

Shame its been taken in the wrong spirit by some - but hey lifes too short...

 

By way of an olive branch would I be welcome to enter your competition ?

As I said Keith - I think your alright legally. The DVD will be probably fetch a little bit less than we will be selling them for in the club shop.

The best ideas are stolen all the time - look at Fantasy Football and all its variations.

However in my defence I honestly did't know Slough had this idea on the go - charging an entry fee and putting some of the money to the club.

 

I know any idea which goes towards raising funds has its place. We recently raffled 10 mins on the pitch as a sub in the pre-season friendly this Sat at Leatherhead.

 

I post plenty of times on the Hampton site and Englandfans (as I follow England home and away).

 

As I am trying to get a couple of entries from each club - what better place than each clubs messageboard/forum to find interest ?

 

I haven't seen you posting on the Hampton messageboard - but wouldn't have a problem if you did if you were trying something for your club or wanted info about Hampton or anything else for that matter.

 

Just don't know where the anger is coming from.

Keith - my post, as you may have guessed, was very much with tongue in cheek! I will instruct my legal representative to take it no further on the understanding that your defence is as generous to Slough in the coming season as it was in the Bryco Cup Final!!
