Tonight's match v. Charlton

Recommended Posts

Yeah we were all over them second half. I thought Danny Slatter should've been man of the match, but MacDonald was class too and would've been my second pick.

Great to hear the singing at the end.

Was Number 9 Kim Grant? I didn't hear the teams announced, but he was pretty good too. As was Skinner and Jackson.

Not too sure on Kerr, unfortunately. Might need to talk to his defenders a bit more, but he didn't do a great deal wrong to be fair.

Not sure if it was a penalty at the end. Such an unfair way to end the game...

McCarthy's a bit slow and got caught out a bit in the first half.

I'm a lot more confident about our chances this season now.

Is Drury ok?

2-1 to them, Gary.

They scored after 15 minutes, bit of a deflected one. Bit dodgy.

Charlie MacDonald scored soon after the restart and we dominated the second half with Lee Protheroe hitting the post and Danny Slatter hitting the bar.

They got their winner by a last minute penalty, which was a tad dubious as a player tried to round Holloway.

I think they only had about three shots in the entire second half.

Really really great tonight. What has everyone been worrying about? We were class tonight. That Kim Grant was fantastic.

In a sarcastic voice "Oh he's not good enough for Forest Green but good enough for us?"

HAHAHAHA Where are you now?

Come on chaps/chapesses - even a mini report will do.

1070 was the attendance, I think.

Yeah it was good. No real chanting until about 15 minutes from time when the drum came out - then there was lots of singing, though mainly by the group around the drum.

As I hinted earlier, Andy Drury didn't play and Slatter was out on the right.

Line-up:

Kerr,
Gooding, McCarthy, Ross Smith, Skinner,
Slatter, Bowry, Saunders, Jackson,
MacDonald, Grant (...?)

Subs:

Holloway for Kerr.
Protheroe for Gooding.
Glozier for Jackson. Then Surey for Glozier.
Omoyinmi for MacDonald.

First half was pretty even, they scored and hit the post. On that attempt, the ball came across, a player hit it and it went past Kerr, who gave up on it and sort of blamed the defence...and then turned around and realise it hit the post and scrambled to clear it.

Saw lots of youngsters there and some fans of teams like West Ham (I heard one say "yeah, this is my first time" so he probably wanted to see a Premier League side or something.) One said "and this is a professional club?" looking at the Northfleet End.

Unfortunately, the programme still has spelling/grammar mistakes...

Danny Slatter was class.

Great game to watch tonight,I thought the Fleet were really good espically in the second half, attacking and passing football with a great work rate. I bet Liam was pleased to see the team coming together, I noticed the usual moaners on the terraces were even praising the team. Dare I say it , bring on Exeter to see where we have got to.

Good 2nd half performance last night and for a friendly a really excellent match.

Let's hope we can carry it through into Saturday

Kim Grant looked amazingly good as the target man, laying off some superb passes to MacDonald and supporting midfield players

Slatter had a great match also

The old hands Jacko, Jay and Skinner were impressive ..... but what about Drury ? Whispers were circulating around the ground that Fordy is courting him - can anyone put any meat on the bones of that rumour ?

The keepers are still a major worry though, physically small and very poor positional sense - set pieces against strong Conference teams are going to be nerve jangling experiences with either of these two between the posts.
