Well the team wearing White shirts and Blue shorts won but that was Braintree Town. Fans were suitably confused as etfc ran out for the first time at home in the new red and black strip away kit, bearing the new sponsors logo SH Property Agents. Town fans stood bemused for the first-time at home behind the team in the home colour. Confused? So were we!

 

Within 10 minutes Braintree had the ball in the Townie net only thwarted by the offside flag. Richard Howard shot just wide from 25 yards out. Chopper made a fantastic reflex save to keep the sheet clean. The Braintree Town 9 and 10 were very nippy and giving all sorts of problems. Dean Green made a lovely run with a pass that just overshot Richard Howard. Johnny Morgan danced down the wing beating numerous defenders. Chopper continued to be the star of the first half keeping Braintree at bay. Braintree did look the better team in the first half with town needing to sort out the marking which was found wanting on a couple of occasions.

 

Second half Jon Stevenson came up for the corner and headed a corner just wide of the keeper. Green, Stevenson and Campbell off for Allen, Riley and Brotherton. Richard Howard shot just over the bar. Johnny Morgan corner headed just wide by Bradley Brotherton. At the other end Chopper in a one on one and save brilliantly with his legs. Graeme Hall and David Allen were inspired with some lovely defending. Johnny Morgan was brought down on the edge of the box and Braintree were unlucky not to concede a penalty. A lovely Richard Howard looping header just missed dipping under the bar for a goal. Shame best chance of the match for Town. Baldwin on for Woodward. In the 82nd minute Chopper was finally beaten in a 1 on 1 with James Baker 0 – 1. Byfield on for Howard. So Town were beaten by a good Braintree Team but in the Second half were probably better (ignoring the goal). Braintree will do well in their league this season. Town did well when you consider the transfer value of the Braintree team out there today.
