Enfield Town 1 Hendon 2

Recommended Posts

Hall, Campbell, Woodward, Stevenson, Hall, Morgan, Negus, Hall, Howard, Riley, Wakeng, Brotherton, Allen, Byfield, Penn, Velandria, Ndombe, Kamatra.

A team will always take more away from a defeat than a win and yet. For the first 25% of the match town contained Hendon extremely well. On 26 minutes Town new signing from Potters Bar Town Richard Howard had his first shot on target. Johnny Morgan shot wide and and was then leaping tackles to panic the Hendon defence. Hendon were arguing amongst themselves as Town went on the attack. Richard Howard was fouled on the edge of the box nothing given. Trialist Dominic Wakeng had the best chance of the first half glancing a header just wide of the post. Town looked good and Hendon had to be worried.

It is a game of two halves and Town rang the initial changes with 4 substitutions. Early in the second half Stevenson looked to have brought down a Hendon player in the box and the ref initially gave a penalty only to be overruled by his linesman who gave an offside. Rudi Hall was fouled badly and showed great restraint in not responding to the bad play from the Hendon player. On 52 minutes Richard Howard headed a lovely glancing header past King in the Hendon goal. 1 – 0. 2 minutes later at the other end Ciaran Gallagher scored a goal glancing off the post past Kamatra. 1 – 1. Minutes Later a good shot from Maurice Byfield was cleared off the line by a defender. Shame! Brad Brotherton ran from deep to shoot just wide. Richard Howard beat 3 defenders and then sadly shot into the side netting. Brad Brotherton was sent off for allegedly spitting before a subsequent pitch brawl. The player involved in the incident with Brad then went on to kick the ball out of the hands on Kamatra 1 – 2.

Town appear to have stepped up in quality of play and this was still an encouraging performance despite being a defeat. Hendon were no push over but Town pushed them closer that probably ever before. One day it will come.

Thought it was a poor game personally and a draw would have been a fairer result. Bradley Brotherton did get sent off for spitting - as the referee pulled him away after the bundle, we heard him say to his assistant that he had seen him spit. Inexcusable.

Your keeper spilled the ball for our second goal, quite how he spilt it I'll never know! I believe that was the first goal you scored against us since you were formed - I did think after you took the lead that today might also have been the first time you beat us.

Good luck for the season, I think you'll do well.

The linesman must have had a 20/20 vision. He was at least 50 yards from the incident, way over the other side of the pitch.Your hearing must be bloody good as well.

I didn't see Brad spit.If he did,he deserved to go. But the Hendon player who was vertually strangling Brad should have walked, along with another Hendon player who threw a punch. What exactally was the ref looking at,whilst all this was happening.Does he moonlight as WWF referee in his spare time.BEHIND YOU!

Thought Hendon were the better side for the first 20 minutes of the first half, Town looked the better side for the second period of that half.Second half was even.Hendon did seem to bring two very different sides along. The first half boys were the picture of manners and neat football. The second half side seemed to constist of (for want of a better word) 'loudmouthed kickers'.

Nice to see Papey and mcCann again.

From where I was sitting I thought that Brad had tried to butt him & missed.

Spitting, head butts, thrown punches, & some bloody awful challenges (soopa kev),must be just another pre-season friendly!!

The boy Howard up front looked quality, Johnny Morgan on the wing was great entertainment, the little left back, (who kicked with his left foot!!) looked good too, Dean Greene re-signing is also great news.

First game of the season just over a week away, from what ive seen im well optimistic, as they run out how about this for a thought, a midfield of:

Negus, Rudi, Penn, Morgan

and a forward line of:

Greene & Howard

Oh Happy days!

Yes thank you Medders for finding Howard he may well be the find of the season.

As for optimistic I'm not. BUT very very very excited about the new season. As a spectator our football this season will most definitely be exciting and a pleasure to watch win, draw or the other thing.

The ESL Championship winning players are being given ever opportunity to cut the mustard and it will be interesting to see how many retain a regular place at this level. Good luck to the whole squad.

I agree it was not the best of games, for the first 20mins we just kept smashing the ball and hendon were on top. After that we had got it down and had the better of the play and it was a shame half time came cus we looked liked scoring anytime. Second half did not see much of to be honest. I don't think we deserved to loose though.

I will say i think it was the weekest Hendon side we have played though.

I didn't see any spitting (and I can't see how any officials cuold have either), but for me Brad deserved to go (or the bench be told to take him off) for putting his head in the Hendon guy's face. Although perhaps he was trying to clean the chap up before the referee arrived? Brad says he didn't do it apparently, so without any evidence to the contrary I'm inclined to believe him. I do think the referee was hopelessly inconsistent, and spoilt what might have been a better game

I could not get to Brimo last night so have only read the reports on here.

The comments about Richard Howard seem to indicate that he has signed for the Town and will be a star, however, on the Potters Bar web page, he has signed for them and he played in their game against Wealdstone on Tuesday this week.

So, what is the situation with the player. Who, if anyone, has he signed for ?

Can anyone explain ?

it seems quite a complicated story from what I have heard. He initially returned to PBT after Jim indicated that he wasn't planning to retain his mate, but after playing for them changed his mind. I understand he has now signed for Town.

Seems a bit reminiscent of the Danny & Danny show, but perhaps with a better ending. Loyalty to mates is worthy, but in football terms it always means that one (or both) won't achieve his full potential. I'll bet that would play on the mind once you hang up your boots.

Richard Howard (and Nicky Winger) signed Southern League forms for Potters Bar Town on 5 July and the PBT website confirmed this fact the same night.

Both players then played for Enfield Town on July 23 without the prior knowledge or permission of Potters Bar Town (in other words, illegal approaches). Both players then returned to PBT and played on July 26, July 30 & August 2.

Richard Howard then played for Enfield Town on August 4, again without the prior knowledge or permission of PBT (in other words, another illegal approach).

Richard Howard has now requested a transfer from Potters Bar Town to Enfield Town which, if it happens, will be processed on Saturday at the earliest. If the transfer does go through, it will be done in the best interests of the player and does not necessarily mean the resolution of the fact that illegal approaches have been made.

Richard Howard is a very good forward who was an asset to Potters Bar Town throughout last season and especially in the early stages of this pre-season immediately after the resignation of Steve Smart as manager. We will wish him well if he decides that his immediate future lies with Enfield Town.

I have given the above information to clear up the confusion that some supporters are experiencing. Any further comments from Potters Bar Town regarding the illegal approaches that Enfield Town have made will be conducted through the appropriate channels and not on this forum.

What, an illegal approach by Medders (a mere fan of ETFC)?.So are you going to sue a rival fan? So Howard signed a form of PBT on the 5th July. How do you prove that any discussion about (or with the player) with regard to a move to ETFC did not happen before that date, and any subsequent decision to come to ETFC was not entirely down to the player in question?

Town have lost players to situations like this in the past.At this level, player movement is a lot more fluid, than in the professional game.

I make PBT right...

He is always fair and his comments constructive.

If a player signs forms with a particular club and then renegades on the deal......surely that isn't appropriate behaviour.

I think he's being quite reasonable considering the circumstances.

Thanks for clearing that up !!

Now ( from reading your reply ) the MESS starts.

It's only a game mate. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/bounce.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/bounce.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/bounce.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/bounce.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/bounce.gif" alt="" />

Very useful information, thank you.

I think the above shows exactly how much PBTFC ACTUALLY knows about the situation - he is clearly relying on this forum for information as to who approached who. He hasn't got a clue!
