Billericay 1-1 Orient

Recommended Posts

Better performance from Town, against a young Orient side (3 first teamers I'm told by people who know about Orient things...). Went behind early doors, but came back well and equalised through a good Ross Wareham volley. Plenty of chances - we hit the woodwork through Ross (post) Tom Poole (bar) and Leon (bar - 30 yd volley), whilest stand-in keeper Dean Neal made a couple of decent saves at the other end. Wasn't as physical a game as some we've played, but we passed the ball well at times. Poole did well when he came on, and I was impressed with Dobson at the back.

Good game, first half wasn't much to write home about (or on the forum come to that) they took an early lead beating our keeper at the near post (he played pretty well to be fair) a bit dull after that until a lovely finish from Ross, lobbing their young keeper who came out to meet him one on one (Ross as ever worked hard all night chasing everything). Second half was very enjoyable and as Simon mentions we were unlucky not to take a lead with three shots that hit the woodwork and their keeper making a fine save from Danny. Both Leon and Thomas did well in the centre and seem to be working well together. Funniest moment was when their number 7 got booked for preventing a free kick in a friendly, still it was very unsporting I suppose.

Have you resigned Kerrigan then?

Quite a good performance, as already mentioned the first half was a bit poor. Sappleton was a bit slow off the marks, the keeper did well, but felt he should have done a bit better for their goal. Simmons was disappointing and it took him 30 mins to get into the game. Wareham was his normal self, puts in lots of effort and shows class and then other times his touch was poor and he doesn't look the same player.

The second half was a very impressive performance. Pat improved a lot and Francis did reasonably well in place of Kerrigan. I though Hunter was brilliant 2nd half and bossed the midfield. I haven't seen much of Poole, but he did well and looked lively. I don't really know why Sterling is still with us as he doesn't look good enough at this level and doesn't really offer anything.

Overall things look promising for the start of the season.

I enjoyed the game, I was actually quite impressed with the O's youngsters. We got better and better as the game went on and probably deserved a win although as mentioned on countless occasions the result not that important.

Interesting to see kerrigan start tonight. Not sure if relations have completely thawed but in the absence of henty and price looks like a much better option than Patterson or Francis to me. i thought dobson did well again and would certainly look to sign him to provide cover at centre back.

With ref to A Walsh's shout about sterling agree he's not the best player we've ever had but he tries hard and we do need players such as him and ross who we assume are prepared to sit on the bench for the most part. after all we need a squad probably about 18 and only 11 can start. at this level its difficult to keep players when they are not likley to start regularly.

All in all a much better effort than last Saturday. Be interesting to see how we go for our first "competitive" game on saturday.

The absentee list from last night is quite interesting:

Mel Capleton (Holiday)

Chris Wayman (Injured thigh?)

Ben Price (foot)

Gary Henty (foot)

Jamie Dormer (niggley injury)

Neil Cousins (thigh)

Nathan Elder (broken finger)

According to tonight's Echo we've offered a contract to Dobson, whilest Edinburgh doens't rule out a return for Kerrigan "he could go on to prove me and himself wrong..."

More like injured groin I'd suggest if his performance with his missus on one of our new luxury settees on Weds nite is anything to go by....:~)
