Matchday DVD's

Following the events at the weekend, it pushed my decision through to upgrade the existing camera I had and went out and got a digital camcorder in order to get our matches filmed in full. With the experience of editing the Bryco Cup Final footage into something neat I hope this will stand us in good stead this season and some demand will be there for individual match DVD's, but it will also help me compile an end of season DVD with greater ease than last season!

I appreciate there won't be demand for every game on DVD, but would like to gauge peoples thoughts as to whether there would be interest for matches throughout the season on DVD/VHS?

It would be full match coverage - all action, both ends. Would be advertised to both home and away fans in all instances, although if demand is there, may simply sell a master copy off to the opposition for them to sell themselves and make money from.

Gary, given that the games come through thick and fast, and I know you have your commitments to studying in addition to STFC stuff and of course your personal life, can I make a suggestion that rather than contemplate individual matchday DVDs, you go with a monthly highlights package - perhaps putting 10 minutes of footage from each game in a calendar month onto the DVD. You would have a bit more time to put them together and obviously this process could help you out in terms of compiling the end of season DVD.

It's surprisingly straightforward to do the majority of editing/cutting for the footage though and I'm hoping that between now and October, Emma will be able to help me out with it so it might not be too bad.

As for selling off a master copy to the club, it may be better doing that than having a single copy sold to the opposition and them copying it themselves and making the money from it.

Gary, if you do manage to film both Windsor / Slough games then a master copy of this would be much appreciated. Credit for any work will be given.

I'd certainly be interested in a highlights type package. I think a full match DVD would be less desirable to most people, except the games against Windsor as watching us run rings around them never gets boring!

A good idea, Gary, and it may also be an invaluable aid to Eddie and Mark in reviewing games.

Obviously there will be more demand for certain games than others as has been clearly highlighted above, but I think in order to get a highlights package for the month together, the entire match would need to be filmed anyway. All I need now is a vantage point at Windsor to let me do this!! Others who do this have already said Stag Meadow isn't the best place for filming, so I'll have to have a look around for a good point.

I assume this means we will be losing you from behind the goal? The hedgehog Heybridge keeper will be relieved, I'm sure!!

I'd also be interested in some highlights, and maybe full DVDs of certain big/derby games, as argued above (i.e Windsor, Wimbledon). Might depend on whether we get a 7-0 hiding or something though!

In the past when I've seen clubs at this level offering this service I've been somewhat amazed that someone bothers to do it. It's a pretty big undertaking so hats off to Gary for wanting to give up his time in this way. It's something that can benefit the club in many ways, and could easily be advertised in programmes and on the website with a contact e-mail address to gauge demand.

Ruthers did move somewhere else in Essex - I believe a league down - and will be sorely missed. He did share a laugh with Radders in the bar after that league match and to be fair, bar one little outburst, took his stick well.

Gary, I did some test filming for a cup final from the front of the stand.

It basically give a good look all round the pitch but the people in the dug outs can get in the way sometimes so the chicken run on the half way line may be better.

I would do some filming like this myself but the camera I have isn't realy good enough quality.

Was he the Lovejoy lookie like one? We spent the whole game calling him Lovejoy and then in the bar asked us why...Turns out he didn't get paid enough to afford sky!

The Hendon guy who films the matches was setup in the stand and as a result of players warming up in front of him, he actually missed a goal. I think the best place intially may well be opposite the main stand. Will give it a try against Leyton and see how we get on. Will have a practice run tomorrow at Hemel to see the quality and such like to see how it gets on.
