Team for next season. CK in NLP

Whilst i'm sure it will be 'alright on the night',is it just me with the jitters about the way the team for next season may be shaping up.

I appreciate the quality of player reqd. is only necessary for Ryman league, and thus we are not going to attract Conference players, but even so,there seems to be a lack of quality in the possible additions to me.

Seems Chapman was the only quality player and he's off the Dover.

Maybe uncertainty over the CVA is holding things back.

CK is quoted in yesterdays 'NLP' as 'Football League here we come'

''I need 4 or 5 players who have the ambition to help us get back into the conference''.

That is why Kinnear 'wants players who are prepared to take one step back to take three forward'

Well thats all good stuff and Rome was not built in a day, but i must admit i can't see much evidence of these type of new signings coming through-maybe i'm wrong.

The results from pre-season friendlies are ok on paper, but i do fear that we could be in for yet another rude awakening and underestimate what is reqd. in the Ryman.Surely the top 12 teams will be same as bottom 12 teams of conf. south and we don't seem to have any decent new additions yet to the squad.

Maybe we need a heavy defeat in the pre-season friendlies to add a reality check

Trying not to be negative, just a reality check and time does seem to be running out before first league game.

In a nutshell, i don't see the line ups as in Chatham and Dover match being good enough for a top 8 Ryman finish(i'm not even thinking we will win it,but can't endure a third season of struggle ).

Is it the CVA noose over the neck that is holding back some decent signings'or am i wrong and can others see some quality emerging from potential signings, who in the main have previously been unsuccessful at Ryman level

After all we've been through just be glad you still have a team to support. I doubt if we will challenge for the title, but we will be OK. As for Chapman, with our limited budget we don't have the room to take expensive gambles.

Interesting first reply.

Why was Chapman both expensive and a gamble?

It appears MFC did make him an offer ,(at least according to the player himself) so CK seems to disagree with you.Unfortunately the player looks to favour Dover.

Concur that i/(we?) are fortunate to have a team to support and like your good self was not anticipating a title challenge but just hoping for some stability and a reasonable team-its just currently i can't see Ryman level players being added to the squad and that worries me;and we are now halway through the friendlies and should have the semblance of a squad

Unti we know if terms of cva areaccepted i guess there will be uncertanty over the funding available, but it is reported on the official site that KP has instructed 'your manager' to get the team back into conf. south intially and that funds have been released.

Obviously, whether you are Margate or Arsenal funds are always 'limited ',but the implication is that some funds are available; and the standard on show does not currently seem commensurate with the implication.

I may be wrong and wish CK well in his pusuit of quality

See comments from Dover and Welling fans on this forum. Plus, if he is such a good player why has he opted to play at a lower level? Is he interested in football or money? (I know Dover are not loaded, but neither are we).

I read this to be a piece of PR. "Funds have been released" could mean £2.50!

Good point Seaside steve, and agree with yo.

Problem is that by a few of these may have 'come onboard' and settled ,it could be end of september by which time a quarter of the league games are played ,and we may yet again have made our traditional slow start(excepting first conf. season when we were prepared for once).

Gate need to make a strong start if for no other rerason than to get the crowds back to HDP

At the moment the trialists we've used seem to be other club's cast offs who've played at a lower level previously and haven't cut the mustard. We know all about Hilaire and Birmingham - they weren't up to it before and since then they've done the rounds of lower league clubs without ever playing regularly. Arojogun played a couple of games for Welling and that was that, Fidyk couldn't get into the Hastings or Dartford teams, Ullathorne is seriously past it and didn't look great when he trialed years ago... The rest are total unknowns. Bottom line is that none of this resembles CK going out and getting the players to take us back to the Conference as the club statement put it.

CVA ALERT!!! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/busted.gif" alt="" /> I think the players are waiting for news from the Administrators. If a good report comes from the Administrators, players might consider more joining Margate.

I think there are two big concerns here for players considering joining Margate. Firstly job security. The players need to know there will be a team to join and that it can be successful ie why jump to a sinking ship? They want success so that they can develop and grow and in the future maybe move to bigger clubs when the time comes. Is this success likely with the current squad?

Secondly there are problems financially with the club, with long delays in payments. Players wont want to join a football club if they arent going to be paid on time and in full. I know that Margate wouldnt embark on a season if they couldnt pay staff and players on time and in full (I have a quote to that effect) but do future players believe this to be true?

Im expecting (and hoping) the Administrators to say Margate is getting better but with no announcement of a deal with the Inland Revenue and no announcement of debts to the Inland Revenue having been paid, obstacles remain.

I thought the thread this thread would bring you into the argument James. You proved me right. Right up your street this thread eh?

As for the "offer" to Chapman maybe it was a "generous" offer but not "enough" for the player to be able to get by on, hence his approach to Dover and perhaps other clubs for that matter. On all the other matters raised I too,I must admit, have slight worries in that department though I am also quite sure CK knows what he is doing.

As I understand it there is "NO" CVA alert.
