Exeter City Coming your way soon...................

Recommended Posts

Some questions:

1. What sort of crowd are you expecting, how many away fans are you expecting?

2. Who have you released and signed?

3. Your chances for the new season?

I will answer the question from an Exeter fan perspective:

We are expecting to bring a healthy contingent on a Saturday match near London for the new season. With encouraging results against Notts Forest and Birmingham in pre-season we expect to bring at least 400 and maybe as many as 800-1000. We have supporters club groups travelling from; Exeter, North Devon (Coach), Norwegian Exiles, Northern Exiles, Great Western Exiles (Bristol Area), Midlands and Thames Valley Group, and of course our London Exiles will be travelling.

There is a real buzz around our club at the moment having finished the season very strongly beating Carlisle away from home 2 nil. We have strengthened the team and expect to be challenging for the play-offs and our captain is back from long-term injury soon. He was being courted by Celtic and other clubs prior to gettting injured.

Our new signings included; Billy Jones (Orient/KiddyLB), Jon Challinor (Aldershot Mid), Farrell (Stk Carlisle - TBC), Vinnicombe (Ex-City crowd favourite). We also have two youngsters Moxey (FACUP wonder goal) a year older and Danny Clay coming into the new season with more experience.

So it should be a good game...... we are hopeful of a much better year. The club moves out of CVA in October and becomes debt free and we have the residual money from the cup run last year to protect us in the short term.

See you soon...........

1. I'll save the first bit for the prediction league, if you don't mind. About 300-400 visiting supporters, I suppose.

2. Look on our website.

3. Lower-mid-table would be fine.

1) We will be delighted if you bring over 400 supporters, you have certainly brought a good few on your last three visits. I don't expect much more than a thousand home fans unfortunately.

2)J.C. is right there are so many comings and goings at the moment the club site is your best bet.

3)As long as we are looking forward to another season in the Conference this time next year I'll be happy.

I don't know much about your other signings but Challinor is a good player and I would expect Exeter to be challenging for a promotion place this season.

Other than the game at the end of last season (when we had nothing to play for) we have a surprisingly good record against you guys but I would certainly be happy if we shared the points on the opening day of the season.

It makes a welcome change to have an opposition supporter come on here with a sensible post rather than the usual insulting rubbish, good luck for the coming season apart from the two matches against us obviously.

The prediction of 400 as a minimum is exactly the case and we should bring closer to 600 plus. It is a hard call really. We always take a lot away first match. After taking 450 to Carlisle and I think 700 to Crawley near the end of the season, our old support is seeping back.

Think the Man U games have made people realised the love is is still their for their club, many people had abondoned the club after 5 years of neglect. Now the fans own the club their has been a really change. We have sold around 1,000 season tickets, for years that was around 600-700 holders.

We have invested off the pitch this year, spedning around £50k on the training facilities and grounds machinery for the club. That money was raised from the coach profits from 10,000 going to Man U and another couple of events.

That said the team has not been invested yet, we need to get the off field right first! The pressure will be on us alittle. We never seem to beat your lot. I have not forgotten the cold night we lost on penalties in the cup!

I have noticed the form you refer to in your message. I look out for your results as I have a good friend who follows the Grecians. You have been performing well. The Birmingham City game was of course against a team which sent no first team members, but nevertheless to beat a reserves/youth team representing a Premiership side is still a good achievement. Curiously you did not mention your 0-7 defeat at home to Bristol City at the weekend! Meanwhile we were playing Hastings away and won 1-0, not that I think that this will be significant come the first game of the season. I think that there should be a few goals on the 13th. I won't predict who will score the most though.

Why only 1,000 home fans.....I thought you would be nearer double that. Your forum does sound very down from an outsiders perspective.....

Last season towards the end of a 17 match unbeaten run in the league we were probably pulling in 1500 home fans but we are a fickle lot here, lose two games and a third of the crowd won't turn up again. The last time we managed 2,000 plus home fans was Notts County in the FA cup and most of those turned up hoping to see themselves on Sky.

It is easy to say that we have a lot of options here, there are several premiership sides in easy travelling distance, Gillingham are just down the road but the simple truth is we don't have enough fans.

Always enjoy the Exeter games. The ones against you the season before last were all great contests (from our perspective.)

They also have an extra resonance for me because between 1974 & 1978 I was a temporary supporter of the Grecians, like many of the students at the university there. If the Fleet weren't playing at Bideford, Minehead, Yeovil or Bath, I was at St James's Park for every home game, even venturing away (only as far as Torquay though) for a promotion decider one Easter. Still remember Lambie Robertson & Tony Kellow as particular favourites of that era.

Looking forward to the 13th.

- Kellow is my all time hero and probably our best ever striker, I am in my mid-30's and the players above got me hooked!

Geography Lesson:

Most clubs in the football league excluding Brighton, Cornwall's PAFC, and the 'lambs' down at Torquay - bless 'em; you will find are North of Exeter. From Exeter Bristol is around 55 minutes in a car before you get to any other decent football ground. The trip to Gravesend will be around 5 hours from Exeter.

The cold night in the FACUP:

It was made worse when my mate missed his lift and was stuck at the ground. I waited in the freezing cold with him until the manager came out, the club gave him a lift home on the coach. I then drove about 90 minutes home.

-------------

We must be due a win at your place!

Cheers
