Getting back to what football was played on Saturday:

 

What was your first impressions of the two new boys?

 

Both apparently from Aldershot. My initial thoughts are:

 

The number 9 looked a bit lightweight and didn't show anything to suggest he will be an asset to the squad.

 

The left wingback, apparently from Macedonia, blew a bit hot and cold, again nothing to suggest he is anything better than we've already got.

 

Are these the players Eddie has mentioned he's had up his sleeve or are there others?

 

Steve Daley said he's still got a niggling injury which he picked up back end of last season. he thought a few weeks off during the summer would cure it but when he started training the injury was still there. He said he could play on with it but with the risk of making it worse.

 

The worse case scenario is if it doesn't respond to treatment it could mean having an operation.

 

This would mean for at least the first five weeks having no recognised central defenders bar Hodgey.

I think your being a bit harsh on the new players given the fact that they only played 45 minutes. I thought they both looked promising. I certainly felt the left back was useful and that seems to be our real problem position at the moment.

I thought the guy from Macedonia was pretty useful compared to the other guys we have seen so far. But i expect him and the striker (who I personally didnt think was great) will be given a start against Hemel to see what they are like over a full game.

 

Its a shame Hodgey is likely to have to start the season in defence considering he is one of the leagues best goal scorers and in these first few games we are going to need him upfront, but lets see what happens.

I agree with martin, i thought the macedonian guy looked extremely promising, he's providing us with another option for our midfield which is always going to be a bonus.

As for the new striker, (White) he was in the right place at the right time a fair amount, perhaps if he's given a bit more of a run we'll be able to see what his finishing is like.

As has already been said, give them a full match before throwing harsh criticisms

Have to agree, I was a bit harsh, give them a game or two and then sit in judgement.

It was only for 45 minutes, and I thought they did quite well. It strengthened my belief that the new Mason is going to be a good player for us.

For a relatively small player he is not afraid to get stuck in and more often than not came away with the ball. He certainly could be an asset.
