What do you as fans want?

Hello All

Well as most of you know Wicksy has left the club which means that at least in the short term I am going to be helping with the programme.

As football fans what would you like to see in your match day magazine? What would make you buy the publication?

I genuinely want to make this a magazine that fans want to read and that's where you guys come in. Give me feed back or even supply me with articles that you think others may find entertaining. I am not going to turn it into a fanzine but I feel it is important to target those important to any club...the fans. We will obviously still have the usual bits and pieces but it's time for a bit of a revamp and if we all pull together then I hope we can make our programme one to be proud of. We have new printers this year which is great as they will accept articles in most formats but if we try to keep it to word and jpegs it will make things much simpler.

Please email me either on christopher.baker@blueyonder.co.uk or on Wicksy's old address which is wicksy@gnfc.co.uk

One idea is for fans to provide me with their all time best Fleet XI with an explanation as to why each player stands out to them but I am open to other suggestions.

Look forward to hearing from you and please this is going to be my first attempt at putting a whole programme together and I am sure it will take a little time to settle down to an approved format but I will get there.

All the best

Chris

Chris,

I think last years programme looked good to start with and I think most fans were pleased with it sgeneral presentation and format.

It rather lost the plot from mid season, however.

One of the biggest gripes as you know, relate to the apparent failure to have articles proof read. Lets try & ensure most if not all articles read properly.

Lets also get the stats page(s) correct. More complete stats as far as the team is concerned would also be useful.

One idea might be tolift Scarborough's idea from 2 or 3 seasons back, where you get an away fans view of his team, including strengths & weaknesses, the best and worst moments he/she has witnessed, etc.

I'm not very imaginative otherwise so I'll leave other ideas to others!

Just a few ideas:

1)All the current player's club history with total appearances and goals etc by competition.

2)Physios page.

3)Details about previous meetings with opponents.

4)More of the decent player interviews

5)Focus on a fan

6)Up to date fixture list

7)Being told players have left /joined the club officially.

8)Captains page

9)Reserves news

10)Directions to the next away game

11)Trust news

12)Club shop page

13)Report from the last game played

14)News from around the league

15)Quiz

16)Better designed sponsorship page with more reasonable pricing - £600 to sponsor a player home and away is verging on ridiculous.

17)Fleet in the Community news

More as and when I think of it.

A pretty compehensive list there. Basically, Chris, start off by cutting out the spelling mistakes, and then take it from there.

Yes - a particular gripe of mine from last season was the fact that when a player left the club, his name was removed from the list of players on the results page and placed in a box on the right-hand side, meaning that you could find out how many games that player had played for us, but not which games he had played in.

Chris, good of you to come on here and ask.

I'd go along with Jimmy's list but J.C. makes a valid point, obviously when producing a programme you are working to a tight deadline but allow some time for a proof read. Nothing looks worse than a programme full of spelling, grammatical and factual errors.

Best of luck to you.

Supporting the club is one thing, paying to read the wisdom of mikefleet is another.

These inept remarks do not sit well on the shoulders of a moderator. The guy does his best.

Excuse me? I'm allowed to state my opinion as much as any other poster.

Last season's programmes were absolute tosh, so I stopped buying them.

I wasn't the only one.

In the 'age of the personal computer', complete with spellchecker, there is no excuse for the poor quality that our programme displayed.

P.S. Inept remarks - pot, kettle, black..... eh Bill?

If we're a professional outfit, you need more than "doing your best". A programme/publication is often the first port of call for visitors to a club, and if it doesn't read properly, it doesn't reflect well... especially with potential advertisers/investors.

Id like to see

1)More easy to follow details on how to get to away games by road and rail.

2) A page in the first program explaining the changes in playing staff , whos on waht contract , what the club are doing in the community , Thanks to those who helped in close season etc.... A round up of the close season

3) Stats is a big issue. Needs sorting.

4) Reserves page and fixtures. I missed a lot of reseve games last season because dates I had were wrong or rearranged.

5) A completely irrelevant but football related page. Something on programme collecting , or football stories from around the world (especially lower leagues , like a game in Canada recently when two strikers had to be substituted so they could get to work on time)

6) Details of facilities in the ground. Where the burger bar and shop are, Toilet location and so on. The signage isnt good for people coming for the first time.

Good luck and maybe this year I will start buying the programme again

Also of course as stated by others the stats and all the things that are currently terrible need to change, but no doubt you already know this.

Personally I think the last idea from RS is the best, but I think more suggestions need to be added.

Scouring last season's programmes for spelling errors on the bus home did provide much amusement though.

Yes, but this would mean full information on them so younguns like me can acutualy know who they are.

Maybe some old(er)supporters as in long time supporters who saw these players play could have an input in the artical, or maybe these fans could take turns writing them, so other fans who buy the programme get a different sort of style to what they're reading each week if you know what I mean.
