TELFORD GAME

GAZ

Recommended Posts

I dont put many messages on here but the telford game was very poor,i dont think i have seen a team play bad like telford all season so far.I also do not think that many of the players on our side were playing with the same passion as usual. I dont think i can look at any particular place on the pitch that we played well, two soft goals,no creative play in midfield, no goals up front. now before anyone says we need to support i am of the same view the team need to have our whole support good and bad,i can honestly say that i am always saying how well we tried our commitment is great etc,but i feel that we should also be able to say on a bad day that that was a bad game.Injuries aside most of the players should be able to cover for each other regardless of them being first team choice or not, ANDY is always saying no big time charlies which i agree with, then players out or not those left to play should be fighting to replace injured players or not and want a starting place. i sure that this will upset a lot of people, but lets be fair and say if we give good support we deserve to air our thoughts when the team dont perform up to standard for conference football, i can understand they are all part time and i for one am no better than they are but to survive in this league we must play better football and not let sides like telford to dictate to much how we can play. we are far better than them and im sure come tuesday we will be in a better frame of mind and play football how it should be played. look at the Hereford game we played how we play best and look at the result.

onward & upward we can only get better which im sure will happen.

Slightly harsh mate - yes we had a bad day but no creativity in midfield? I'm sure Tostao was running rings round the opposition in the first half down the right, whipping in allsorts of crosses that unfortunately Telford defended to a man.

2nd half again plenty of creativity - just as much when Boothy came on.

The problem lies in the fact that ONCE AGAIN silly defensive errors cost us dearly.

This isn't a criticism of the players who played yesterday but deep down everybody know that it wasn't our first choice defence out there - can't understand why we didn't bring in at least one extra defender considering that is where most of our injury problems are, especially when you consider the signing of Hamid Barr has been a bit of a joke.

(The bloke signs, buggers off to Carlisle for over a week on trial - really must want to play for us - comes back and is now on holiday!)

I think we have plenty of quality in midfield - the creativity starts to disappear when the midfield have to drop back to cover the frailities of the defence.

Get the defence sorted, the midfield can then get on with creating - create enough chances and the forward line will put the ball in the net.

It's all very well saying that we have to hang on in there until the injury situation improves but suppose there is a setback in any of the players recovery?

>we are far better than them <

I have no idea how you arrived at that conclusion after yesterday!

You didn't trouble us all afternoon, we did a thoroughly professional job on you and you didn't have the nous or creativity required to break us down once we'd taken the lead.

For such a big side I was amazed at how vulnerable you seemed to be against high balls over the top & down the channels, Mooro could and should have had two before half time.

Some work to do I think, but all the best for the rest of the season!

I'm going to have to admit that Milky (TUFC) is right. Just like other sides that have defeated us this season, Telford took enough of the few chances they created in order to win the game comfortably. They closed us down well and while their football wasn't always pretty, it was very efficient.

Nonetheless, there are positive sides to yesterday. One was the performance of Nick Burton - a superb effort, particularly taking into account his nasty clash of heads with Paul Sturgess in the first half. In addition, we simply have to accept that we are very likely to lose more games than we win at this level, and I think that our current standing of 17th place isn't all that bad considering our crippling injury list.

Under the current circumstances, the boys need us more than ever now - so in line with the other thread about yesterday's game, stop heckling and get behind the lads through thick and thin. We simply aren't going to win as many as last season, and some people are clearly having trouble accepting that.

Yep....same old bunch of whingers piped up in the second half !!

They really do piss me off.......Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but for XXXX's sake....let's encourage a ?

I think these people expect to see Henry, Shearer, Giggs ( and Hirst ??)

every week.....maybe soon a ??...or are you happy for us to be back in the Ryman with a 300/400 crowd ??

and....for the benefit of the "gentlemen" who asked me where I was 40 years ago.......I believe some sort of pushchair was in order then !!

Cheers,

This is not a moan its a point of view.

I belive on the day we can match any team in the conference, but if we play to the other side we will only have more problems. All the injuries aside we have enough in the team to perform better than saturday, tackling, marking, passing, shooting was no where near our best, and all i am saying is it seemed that self belife was missing and the team play was short, i dont shout and rant and rave at any player on the day but on here i am just giving my view and there were many who will aggre with me and those who don't, but one thing is for sure i will be cheering the lads on and just hope we play how we know we can,im not looking for henry, rio, becham just a good account of themselves and that they all give their all.

A sad day for us but Im positive that we will get though it and play better football, sorry i didnt post earlier, too busy fitting a new kitchen.

Wasn't me who commented on Saturday, but i did a few weeks ago, when I was greeted with comments like "where were you on the cold winters nights last year" ? ( a bit personal and intrusive I thought !) and

"where were you 40 years ago?" hence the pushchair remarks. On that particular Saturday, to ensure sensible conversation, dialogue was established with the bramble sticking through into the gents bog !

...a lot more meaningful !

.....let's hope for better things tomorrow...

C'mon you 'fleet

Cheers,

Quite agree that some of the comments made in this thread and others are a little OTT.

We all knew when we came up to this league (at least if we were being realistic) that it would be hard at times, and something of a rollercoaster ride

There will be high points, such as the victory at Woking, and there will be low points, such as the defeats at home to Southport and Telford.

The big challenge is ensuring that there are more of the high points than lows

It is inevitable with the restricted budget that the club has ( apparently one of the lowest in the Conference, remember), and the injury situation, that things will not always go right for us, but the players can do nothing other than try their best & despite various comments to the contrary, I'm sure that most of them do give of their best, for the vast majority of the time.

Lets face it, even on Saturday, the game could (and probably would) have been totally different, had Che bent that early chance a foot inside the post rather than a foot outside it, or had Jimmy Strouts had a six inch longer leg to touch that free kick from Jacko into the net.

I know you can always argue these things, and it could be argued that Telford had a couple of chances in the first half as well, that had they taken, the game would have been over earlier, but it just goes to show how marginal misses can change a game.

The main thing we really need to achieve is the same level of second half performance, as the first - looking on the Conference Guide tables of first and second half results, we are near the top of the first half table (only Forest Green have so far been ahead of us at half time), but are some way down the second half table. This surely has to be the area that Andy looks at long and hard, and I'm sure he is already doing so.

We can survive in this league - after all, everyone is capable of beating everyone else on their day, and the tightness of the table at present clearly demonstrates that (a win tomorrow night would potentially move us back into the top half of the table again) - lets just get behind the team and help them prove they are quite capable.

Totally agree Alan W . You can say in 500 words what can be said in a Big Ron sentence .

'Early doors ; a marathon, not a sprint ; at this level John...this is what it's all about .'

Now newcomers , stop moaning. As I've posted before , we've waited 20 years for this and are enjoying the ride .

An extra early start tonight to beat the M25 log jam I fancy .
