Ipswich

YELLOW

Recommended Posts

Lost 2-1 tonight to a rather youthful Ipswich 11.

First half wasn't much to write home about and we were rather sloppy and conceded two bad goals.

Second half was much better with Dom Sterling getting a goal back from a corner. Lee struck the bar with a great effort and Jason Hallett looked lively and worked his socks off.

Former Ricay and Grays winger Gavin Heeroo is the latest to join us on trial and there was runouts for Jay Conroy and Tommy Laws who both did OK.

I agree with Yellow, first half was awful and certainly nothing I want to see again this season. Loads of shouting and not much else, it seemed nobody wanted to have any time on the ball and too many one/two touch passes were going astray. Silly mistakes cost us the 2 goals, both scored by the energetic Number 10 (maybe worth a look).

However, second half was a different story and the lads put up a spirited performance. Sterling scored a carbon copy of his goal against Hull, and Boylan hit the bar from a cross come shot. Hallett worked effortlessly and charged down every ball, superb commitment. Also thought that Duffers worked hard and really started getting into them by the end. All three trialists looked good, especially the potential that Conray and Heeroo showed on the right hand side.

Overall not the best match in the world but towards the end there were glimpses that we are possibly getting on track for the start of the season.

BTW - the Ipswich team were no mugs as they won the FA Youth Cup last season

i agree, i thought the first half canvey had put on ipswich shirts with the amount of back passes. I think that conray should definatley get signed, i think he is a good all rounder and shows great effort, not sure about heroo yet, would like to see more of him. I thought that when minton finally worked out that running forward instead of going round in cicles made some very good passes and runs. I think that the passing has to get sharper, there were so many sloppy passes out there, and i was wondering if they ever looked before kicking. I think Canvey will have to get a lot sharper before the start of the conference. Come on Canvey pull your socks up and show teams what you are made of!!!!

No doubt money is important in signing players but do we want players who only want to pick up their wage packet every week? We need players who want to play for us and are prepared to put in 100% effort every game.

Neil Midgley played upfont with Bertie Brayley for Aldershot yesterday.

I noticed on the Shots forum that they seem to be impressed with Conroy, Brayley and Midgley.

Conroy we might be able to pursuade back, but what have the other two been on over the Summer?!

Justin Richards apparently wants to move back north and Burton Albion are after him. Jeff has said in the past that he rates him and no doubt he would be an ideal partner for Boylan.

WOKING TURN DOWN BURTON OFFER FOR RICHARDS

Woking FC today turned down Burton Albion’s latest offer for striker Justin Richards.

John Buchanan, Woking’s Chairman, said this afternoon: “We’re keen to keep Justin. Burton made an increased offer for him but it was only for £10,000 plus a few thousand on top for appearances. This falls a long way short of our valuation of Justin, whom we rate very highly. As a consequence, the Board had no hesitation in rejecting Burton’s offer.”

Good player Richards. Big and strong with a good turn of pace.

Quite surprised that Midgley is doing so well at Aldershot but maybe it's because he is playing in his natural position at last.
