Saulsbury

I don't have the hatred for Staines that some of you have, infact I don't mind them really. Don't think they are a bigger club as I always judge a big club by support rather than facilities (in my opinion) and Staines have the Chav element with have next-to-no away support - took around 10 to us last season!!! , but I agree with Woody's earlier postings ie players, pitch and facilities.

Saying that though - it's a sideways step and I thought he is easily good enough and could have gone to a club in conny south challenging for play-off's ie Basingstoke or someone like that...

What really gets me about the situation is why play for us Tuesday and raise everyone's hopes?

Surely after a season James knows what we are all about, knows the set-up and players? Strange!

Good luck to him though - did well for us.

Chris, I assume from what you've written, and how you've written it (i.e. past tense) that there has been no turnaround, and Saulsbury has definitely put pen to paper for Staines then? (As per the story on thisisslough?)

Obviously I read the article, but like everyone was just wondering if there would be a change of heart, because it wasn't 100% conclusive.

He has told Eddie he has joined Staines. Eddie's, Dennis Greene's and the Staines manager's (Steve Cordery) reaction is in the Observer tomorrow and is a good read. Eddie makes some good points yet again and gives Ballard the thumbs up!

Staines have even announced it on their website www.stainesmassive.co.uk

Saying that though I don't think anyone can 'officially' sign for a club unless they sign a contract at the moment as I don't think Ryman league forms are even out yet!!!

It strikes me that Sauls has been stringing everyone along. It must be bad if I even feel a tinge of sympathy for Dennis Greene and Maidenhead as he's buggered them about too. I'll make sure that passes quickly, however.

He must have played for us on Tuesday knowing the decision he would make as what did he think he'd learn by playing at Beaconsfield that he didn't know about us already?

Good player, for sure, but as I've mentioned before, I'd rather see players of lesser ability who specifically want to wear a Rebels shirt rather than those who have other motivations, a category Saulsbury seems to fall into. Serve with Honour, and all that - Saulsbury should ask Ian Hodges for details.

It's got to come down to money really hasn't it?

Staines is a backward step; yeah they've got great bar and conference facilities (i even managed to get something edible to eat there)but the ground is awful, badly designed with no space behind the goals and no room for expansion. But then they have no support, and the pitiful amount they bought to slug meadow was, well pitiful.

Yes Slough hasn't got a ground and we never really know what's going on, but - and this might sound corny - the best currency we have is our support, which at this level and considering all the s*** the clubs been through is still impressive. Ultimately it will be the fans that pull the club through our current predicament (ok, maybe with the help of a rich benefactor or two and a council that give a s***).

Good luck to Saulsbury, hope he buys some nice new clothes with the extra cash.

PS Can anyone buy me a copy of the Observer and bring it to the Uxbridge game?

I hope they show him where the toilets are so he doesnt have to relieve himself in full view of young girls like one of his new team mates did at a previous game!!!!

Warren I will get you a Slough Observer.

Understand the sentiment Rog but the player of the year should always be just that whatever comes next.

Shame to lose a class player but thats the way it goes. There are basically two types of fottballers Class players and class people. Occasionally they are both. All teams need a mix of class players and class people. Sauls was a class player ( as was Haddow) we now need to find others to add to the class PEOPLE like Daly, Wilko and Hodgey. Then it will be fine.

Warren is totally right its all down to money..well at least 80 % of it is....

Some players do show loyalty, but very few..so no surprises to me that some players will put greed before total happiness...Staines are looking like a old slough side...good luck to them , but remember those ex slough players, staines cut the budget last year at christmas, as they were no going to make promotion, so beware the same might happen this year !

Message to our player...(like warren said) our supporters will be there each week in numbers to support the team both home and away , and as a footballer it must be better to play with support than not to play with support ! Its a big asset and we will be there for you to show how proud we follow Slough Town FC...

up the rebels...

its not all money to make you proud..of what you do for yourselves or us as supporters...its the game its self and how the way you play and die for our club.

make us proud of you too...

good luck...we will be there for you...

I'd like to know what Saulsbury said to Eddie before the game for Eddie to play him for any of the game let alone the full 90 minutes.

Obviously a pack of lies.

The other annoying part is unless he was carrying an injury it deprived Steve Daly of a game or one of the other subs who are fighting for a place.

I think Steve is returning to fitness and shouldn't really have played on Saturday against Burnham so was probably welcome of the rest, but you're right, Saulsbury knows the situation here from the fact we've had a budget cut and knew we'd be limited in that respect, so why block a chance of us trying someone else? It's a shame if he does move, and I still hope there's some way of getting it sorted and him back into a Slough shirt.

If not, I've got full faith in Eddie, Mark and Roy to find a suitable replacement.

It was a shame that a trialist did not get a game if James had already made his mind up but who knows he might have still been undecided. To be honest Steve and Wilko should be nursed through these friendlies as we will need their experience for the competitive games to come.

I am surprised at Saulsbury going particularly after the way he celebrated the third goal at SYCOB but money makes the world go round.
