On an exciting and enjoyable night Enfield Town had the measure of a Thurrock Side playing at home and came out worthy winners 2 – 3.

 

It was a cracking game with Gant and Negus tracking back early on to make crucial clean tackles. Stevenson tried to do the same but was late and got booked early on for his troubles. Town contained Thurrock nicely in the first half and should have gone in 0 – 0 if the linesman had seen two Thurrock players offside by about 5 yards. Not to be 1 – 0 at half-time.

 

Second-half Jim gave the second half lads a run out like the previous two occasions. Thurrock pressed up and it looked only a matter of time before they got a reward for their pressure. However Steve Velandra had not read the script and from almost the half –way line score a candidate for goal of next season 1 – 1. 75 minutes approx. Hold on these guys just might be beatable after all. On 81 minutes sustained pressure gave Johnny Morgan a freekick. Keeper did not protect his near post so where did Johnny put it? The Keeper got a hand to it but it went in 1 – 2. Wow this is really happening! 2 minutes layer Johnny Morgan crosses from the same side and Dean Nyman pivots ballet style and wacks it in off the bar 1 – 3. Thurrock got a consolation goal but Town deserved the win.

 

Maybe Thurrock spread themselves too thinly tonight trying to play Town and AFC Hornchurch in one night but hey Town did well with a very pleasing performance. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/applaus.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/applaus.gif" alt="" />

 

Matty limped off after overstretching himself in the first half let’s hope it is not too serious.
