I accept all of what people are saying in the defence of Jamie, indeed it would be hard to attract a quality striker and ask him to sit on the bench. So why buy him and tell him that he's going to sit on the bench? I am a firm believer that a football club should be a meritocracy - He who plays best, plays..simple as that. (So if Jamie is good enough, he should be challenging the front two for a place)

In the case of Jamie Wallace, I do not believe that he is ever going to push for a place in the starting line up while Fewings and Big Roy are at the club, this could lead to complacency on their part...and what happens when the inevitable injuries and loss of form strike, we will be forced to start a far inferior player and one who has hardly played with the team.

At the moment, the same goes for Scott Forrester, he hasn't really shown enough since coming to the club which is why going out on loan (good move GC, don't give up yet)....oh and no I didn't get on Scotty's back after his misses vs Aylesbury but then I like to give a player a chance to settle down and fit in before I rip him apart!!! No seriously, we have already had a season of Jamie and to be honest I spent all that time trying to see something good in him......I didn't!

The prosecution rests

Jamie may not be an out and out goal scorer (and we have struggled to find these in recent seasons) but he does hold the ball up well and touch it on well. A good asset when you have out and out goal scorers like Essendoh. I believe that Martin Carthy is in the same boat. He may seem quiet in some games with his impact but if you watch he is constantly running. I think this is why Willow gets played out of position so often because Gary does not want to drop either of them.

There is a lot more to this game than just who puts the ball in the net!!

i find it incredible that some people are having a pop at jamie. he is still a young player and i feel that his technique has improved a lot since last season. he has one bad game and everyone slates him. joe baker had about 20 bad games on the trot last year and everyone loves him. i accept that jamie isnt the most talented player weve got on the books but he is very keen and a real tryer and it takes a blend of all types to make a good team unit. i feel that jamie is a good player for the team - you only have to see the way all the team reacted when he scored at hayes - he needs encouragement not people slagging him off. i accept that fewings and essandoh are ahead of him in the pecking order and quire rightly so in my opinion but given what i ve seen of them both i d rather have wallace than forrester on the bench anyday.

His Hayes goal was indeed a lovely moment. He is clearly a popular player - Basically as far as forwards go, I don't care if they are a cross between Ian Ormondroyd and Robert Rosario if they score goals. In fact if he scored 20 goals a season, I am pretty sure that the question of his selection would not be in doubt, no one would question his ability....but.....he doesn't!

Despite all I have argued to his detriment, I would be abseloutely delighted if he made me look like a complete mug by scoring a hat trick of screamers tonight. If he does improve significantly I will happily apologise and change my view.

Can't see it happening though !!!!!

I think most of what's been said above is fair in that competition for places is important - Calder has made no secret of the fact that we're in the market for another striker - hence the likes of Bubb and Charles having a go an the attempt to bring Stafford Browne back in. I think it's harsh to say we had a season of Jamie - he was only fit for small parts of it. He did manage to play a central role in one of the highlights of last season, though, the final goal in the 4-3 comeback at bedford!

You know that is cruel. He has played well for us last season, when he was fit. And the only reason he was unfit was because of the way he put himself about when we attacked the oppo and picked up injuries. Full on and going for every ball. 110%.

Okay, attitude don't make a talented player but last season he was one of the few that played with conviction and in my book that does count (on last seasons performance by the team).

Give the man a chance. Mr. Forrester has done less for us in the friendlies and I don't see anyone giving him stick (yep, I know he is on loan) but he didn't do it for me and some others. Jamie is a squad player and for that he does well. As I said, one bad game and missed chances does not make a bad player.

It would be nice, just for one season, for some of us to not get on players backs!!!
