Aaron Kerr to sign

Recommended Posts

Liams quoted as saying he wants 2 full-time keepers.

If you consider only 1 full time player can play at any 1 given time, would it not be better to have another full-time *out-field* player,

who would hopefully make the first X1, rather than at least 1 full-time keeper permanently warming the bench?

Does anyone know how many full-time players the budget allows for? My guess is between 6-8 - a figure similar to what Grays had a couple of seasons ago.

I would like to think that Ron Hillyard had some input into this decision. He will be doing most of the coaching of the keepers so I guess he must be happy to have Aaron on board. I think I would back his judgement based on seeing him in training and playing in all the games rather than those who formed an instant view based on 45 minutes against Colchester.

Yes, we signed Liam Hatch from Herne Bay and he turned out to be rubbish, didn't he?

Signing players from lower division clubs doesn't automatically mean they won't be good enough for the Conference.

Can't sign Kim Grant, he's too old and too crocked and too sicknote.

Can't sign Aaron Kerr, cos he's from lower league (er... despite playing for Walsall).

If you don't want experience, and you don't want youth or up and coming players, then who do you sign, presuming that most 'Conference' standard players are already at Conference clubs?

I agree totally with you that most Conference players are playing for Conference clubs because the respective managers of those clubs were capable of attracting them from other clubs of the same level through either finacial improvements or using their personality and powers of "selling the club".

One or two from lower leagues or one two old hands ok - but not a whole team !

If we want to sign good players we will only ever get them from lower leagues.

If a good player is already playing at conference level or above why the hell would he even consider playing for us.

If however, and this was what Andy Ford was good at, we can find a quality player who is currently playing for a lower league side then the opportunity of playing in the Conference makes us a much more attractive option.

As stated earlier in this thread, Drury and Hatch are prime examples of quality players with no Conference experience both of whom where far better signings than some 35 year old has been who can no longer play for QPR reserves because his knees have gone but has loads of experience and more importantly once played for a club that you have heard of.

I cetainly agree that we need a balance in the side, but the people on here who complain about players from lower leagues should stop and think about what they are saying.

We will not sign a football league quality player from a football league club, if they are still good enough then they would still be in the league.

We will not sign a football league quality player from a Conference club, if they are good enough they would be moving up not down.

We could and have in the recent past signed football league quality players from lower leagues.

Christ, and I was called a doom and gloom merchant.

What a statement to make about the club you support!

But isn't that a realistic statement? Unless he's offered more money by us (which isn't going to happen with, say, 16/22 Conference clubs, or a better chance of success (again, same odds), then as Slarti said he's unlikely to come here. Doom and gloom, or the simple facts of the market we're operating in?

I wouldn't normally comment on another club's forum, but I will set the record straight about Aaron Kerr. He hasn't "come from a lower league club", he has been out of the game for nine months after rupturing a cruciate ligament while playing as a favour for Worcester City while City's keeper Danny McDonnell was out injured. I think you can forgive him being a little nervous and maybe unsure of his kicking in his first couple of games since a career-threatening injury. Prior to the short spell at Worcester, he was at Walsall (which unless I am very much mistaken is rather higher in league status than the Fleet), and was on trial at Boston United when he sustained a wrist injury.

He's a commanding keeper, a tremendously agile and brave shot-stopper, and a hell of a nice lad both on and off the pitch. You've got yourself a real diamond there, as you will see in due course. We at Worcester are delighted for Aaron that he is able to resume his career at a decent standard - take a look at the Worcester message board to see how highly he is regarded at the Lane.
