Burnham Ramblers 0-3 Billericay

Recommended Posts

Fairly comforatble win in the end, don't think they managed a shot on target. Apart from the first 20 mins when they came at us we were largely in control. Took the lead through Cuz early doors, then Macca headed in from a tight angle after half time before Tom Poole wrapped up the scoring heading in from close range.

Jamie Smith didn'nt help himself get a deal for next season towards the end when he got into a bit of a fracas with former Blue Danny Jones. Jones had been fouling him something chronic so Smith turns round and headbutts him... not the best idea. Both players were subbed off by the ref.

Plus points for Blues...

Cuz back in action with a goal

Saps and Maccas did well at centre back, without a recognised full back in the side!

Simmo had a good game, particularly second half when he supplied the crosses for the Macca and Poole goals.

Team

Mel

Game Saps Macca Patterson

Simmo Hunter Thomas Sterling

Hockton Cousins

Subs

Smith for Game (ht)

Harrop for Thomas (ht)

Poole for Cousins (ht)

Elder for Hockton (ht)

Cousins for Elder (80)

Ex-Blue watch.

Dan Trenkel and Danny Jones were up front for Burnham but didn't make much impact. Trenkel subbed off after a largely anonymous 2nd half.

Frank Everett played sweeper and did OK.

I see from their prog that a "Portway" played for em last season and scored a load of goals.... is this Steve?

Both the games I have seen this pre season so far, the opposition have "meant it" which is a good work out for our lads.

I thought the first half was scrappy, with Burnham Ramblers spoiling the play with the usual hard tackling which you expect with a team in the ESL. They also we're as fresh as we were and full of running.

Surprisingly (or not), it was in the second half where I thought we exerted ourselves. I say surprisingly because we made 4 subs at the start, one a new face, one a trialist, one an under 18 youth player and Nathan. This season, Justin is obviously going for quality over quantity when choosing trailists (although Jamie Smith really didn't do himself any favours as Simon said).

The one player I would pick out (and if you read the Non League paper, Burnham have picked him out as well) is John Simmons. A product from our "fairly" new youth set up, I thought he had a magnificent game. Fair enough, he wasn't as effective in the first half but for a player so young, he certainly didn't hide and was involved all the game. In the second half he came into his own, providing the two crossess that made the second and third goals...and let us not forget that Tom Poole, who scored the third is an under 18 youth player...

Without going into hyperbole mode, with talent like this coming through the youth section, the future is bright, the future is blue and white!!!

Agree with all of the above (also thought the triallist centre mid second half passed it about quite nicely).

If any tremors are felt in the CM12 area over the next 48 hrs it will be me performing my rain dance to try and bale (bail?) Vaughan and co out of the siht.

Thinking about it, the right side of midfield looks quite strong now with Matty Game, Simmo and George all making a good case for a starting role there. Hopefully Dorms will be back soon (fingers crossed). Be interesting to see if Game gets another run out at right back.

With Gary Henty, Matt Game and George Lay all playing well we have plenty of options down the right. Matt Game can also cover in the middle of the midfield.

My main worry is the left. Didn't George play down the left against Cambridge? So we have cover there with Dormer coming fit again. We desperately require a recognised left back.

The squad is short of squad players for the defence. I know we have that young chap in the under 18's who, in my mind, is one to watch. If he lives up to potential, we'll have a centre back who can put his foot on the ball and pass but at the moment, he is young and needs experience at senior level.

As I said, we have quite a few players in the U 18's that some of the "lower" register Ryman teams would only be too pleased to have in their first team. What John and Martin have done is absolutly brilliant but we still have to nurture these youngsters and not expect too much from them...then again, (and lets not lose sight that Burnham Ramblers are an ESL team), Simmo was brilliant in the second half on Saturday and took responsibility like a seasoned player...

I will attempt to translate...

Simo is a g(oo)d player(.) Last season (a)gainst another under 18 side he c(ou)ldn(')t match the pace (and) skill of the left mid he was playin(g) ag(a)inst! Shame for a person in the Billericay first team such as Simo, (a) very g(oo)d prospect! Just c(ou)ldn(')t ha©k the game I was watchin(g.)

So they only actually left out the following baby noise/dying animal type sound "oo.aou'andgaaooou'cg.", which wasn't really worth having anyway.

Gazza, Is this person by any chance Rob Swaine from the under 18's side?
