Has something changed this season that has seen the Rebels get off to such a good start??

Havent had a whole lot of time in the summer to see the comings and goings and stuff....

Possibly better attitudes and players gelling together better???

I would be interested to see peoples comments on this!!!

All the best from the USA

A very interesting question, Chris!

And it's the same Manager who was being slagged off last season and begged to go! Maybe if you get to choose a relatively settled team from players with some ability, whom you chose because they wanted to play for Slough and for you, you get a team as defined by Paul, or is that being naive?

Any way, let's hope they continue to win like this and play to the level we need to get us back where we belong.

Well done the lads, all of them and keep it up!

I think in the past Slough have had ex pro's happy to come to the club to pick up some xtra dough and have a kick about. Knowing their careers were over, they weren't really bothered about the future of the club. Plus they felt they had nothing to prove. This year we have some younger faces some of which have been released by pro clubs and have a point to prove. Also what you've got to understand is that we are 2 divisions below the Conferance, so some sides might not be the greatest. <img src="/forums/images/icons/grin.gif" alt="" />

I also think the budget cut has had a positive effect on the side as we've now got more 'grafters' in to go with the cream (Hakki, Howard, Daly).

The other main factor has been the stability of the side. We've not had to make many changes to the back four/five so they develop an understanding and with Blake returning and his better communication skills than DJZ, that understanding will improve further.

Yes we must not just put it down to old pro's who only came for the money-maybe that was true of the last bunch, but Slough have had some decent old pro's in the past.A few who spring to mind are Peter Feeley(Chelsea)Phil Beal(Spurs)Barry Friend(Fulham)Graham Roberts(Spurs,Chelsea Rangers etc)Richard Teale(QPR) all triers the lot of them.

What we must not do is go overboard yet, maybe the general standard has dropped, definately the best side we have played so far was Northwood and we beat them-but we are not beating anyone by a wide margin,so are always open to comebacks by the opposition.

Not to criticise the ex-pros but it does seem that the younger players feel they have more to prove.

Dean Palmer is a good example he works tirelessly for the team and is a 100 percenter. After scoring a terrible own goal against Harlow he did not let his head go down and attacked trying to rectify his mistake.

Ryan Spencer looks a classy player with at times an excellent first touch.

Metcalf may not be the youngest squad member, but he is a midfielder that every team needs, a real worker.

Sammy Winston is on fire.

Hale is the canny forward who knows all the tricks.

Veli Haki is the teams heart.

Barras is under rated in my opinion and seems to be devoted to the cause as is Daly.

Is it luck or is it inspiration that has bought the team together. A bit of both clearly. You must credit Steve Browne for at least bringing all these players to the club.

This season we are playing with purpose, confidence and character. Long may it last!!!!

Just a thought but as Sammy's rep grows we will see teams trying to mark him out of the game. That means its all the more important that we have a second striker who can score, and goals from midfield. With a relatively short front six we will need more from the defenders who come up for set pieces.

And of course Sammy will be suspended soon if he keeps getting booked, so we need another pacey player to slot into his role - Budd (the injured one) looked quite pacey at Uxbridge,
