Saints 1 - Barnet 3

I have a theory that the current Saints players are solar powered. The more sun the better they play. Needless to say it was a bit cloudy last night.

I know the games at the moment are only pre-season friendlies, and they are there to trial trialists, get fitness up and test different formations and combinations, but I always want to win (why am I supporting SACFC then you might ask. ha ha!). At the end of the day Barnet were just a better side than us - espeically in the first half when they scored all three of their goals. They were playing their first squad, and you could tell. I think we only had one shot on target the entire half - right at the very end. Barnet were just quicker, passed better and were just physically stronger on the ball.

It was all change in the second half. Barnet (I think) changed their entire squad. Whereas we, differing from the last two PSFs, kept alot of the same players on. We were better, and when we brought our number 16 on (sorry, don't know his name - he seems to have a few fans though. The lads in front of me were cheering him.) he looked lively and scored! Magic! Maybe the sun had come out for a brief second?

I'm still not sure about Tom Beech - I want him to do well - but for a big bloke he's not very good in the air and he gets knocked off the ball far too easily. (maybe he needs to start eating more shredded wheat?). Simon Martin is still not looking a threat, but to be fair to the strikers they weren't getting much service. There were quite a few players who I didn't recognise - or I need new glasses!! I think the match on Saturday, against Dunstable will be more intersting - to see the players playing a team more on their "level". Let's hope it's sunny day!!

PS I thought Mark Graham, when he came on in the second half, looked good. I can see him setting up plenty of goals.

Hi Zag.

Hmmnn.

Colin Lippiatt was quoted in the Herts Ad last week that he sees a squad of 16 players for this season. He said something about having options if he doesn't put the second goalkeeper on the bench.

If I have been following developments correctly, the current squad appears to be:

Bastock, Perks, Cousins, Seeby, Nowacki, Altman, Ben Martin, Kavanagh, Christmas Cracknell, Hann, Graham, Davis, Clarke, Hakim & Beech.

That's 15. Perhaps I've missed one. Perhaps I've misunderstood the quote in the paper. It would seem that there is room for one or two more players from the 'triallists' that are currently with us.

I didn't make it last night. Does Simon still try to head the ball with his eyes shut or was that coached out of him at Thurrock? Were any of the PASE lads on display?

fcol ?? wtf?

Well, to be honest, I wouldn't know the difference between a PASE/college course (whatever) person and a trialist. There were several players on the pitch I didn't know - they are not listed in a program, not announced over the tannoy (unless I missed it). I'm even sure that when number 16 scored it was NOT confirmed over the PA. It would be fitting if last nights number 16 (in the 2nd half) would be the name added to the end of that 15 player list.

I'm told that PASE is the future, Laz. But I'm still trying to master HLMT.

Oh, by the way. I have it on good authority that last night's No 16 is Mohammed Amine Kabli. He came on [in the] second half against Brighton. He is a friend/cousin of Naibert who plays for some club in the Premiership and was in the stand on Friday evening.

I never pass on rumours but I'll share a story that I heard on Friday evening with you. Apparently, that chap who is the Executive in Charge of Transportation on the Supporters Club Committee has a part time role as Assistant Executive in charge of Poster Erection [ Hatfield Road/ Camp Road Sub-Division]. Anyway. One of his regular spots is a restaurant in Hatfield Road, and when arranging his pre-season erection, the restaurateur button-holed him and said "Oi, Effendi. My cousin is coming over to help in the restaurant and he can play a bit. What does he have to do to get a trial with the Mighty Saints?".

Our man reported back to the chap who used to drive the red tractor who said "Training starts next Wednesday. Tell him to bring his boots and Colin Lippiatt will have a look at him".

Our man, now apponted to the post of Junior Executive In Charge of Scouting, responded accordingly and the rest, as they say, is history. Good story, eh?

I also agree about donkey boy (Beech that is). On friday one ball came to him at about waist height, went down to header it and missed it. Doesnt like tor un about too much and cant keep the ball very well. However he is still young, reminds me a lot of young fat Flintoff (although he still likes a pie!)

Hi Mad.

Curly? Yes. Long? Not as long as yours, but kinda permed in a shortish 'afro' style. Shorter than Huggy Bear's but longer than Uri Geller's. How's that?

Why do you ask? He played against Aldershot [in the] second half, if that's what you're getting at.

He played against Brighton as well, centre-ish midfielder. Almost scored then as well, well set beech up the donkey.Didnt think he was up to much good though, didnt know where to be and was always in the wrong place apart from the fluke. Might be wrong though.

He (Kabli) looked pretty useful to me. A quick piece of investigation reveals he played for ASS SALE in the Moroccan League last year and was top scorer for them with 7 goals (best was 12).

Maybe Nick Roddis is the sixteenth member of the squad, he's played in at least two of the friendlies so far.

Hi Rob.

Nick Roddis! Of course! I had a feeling that one was missing from my list.

I hope that Simon Martin, Kalam Mooniaruck, Mohammed Amine Kabli, Daniel French and the rest of the trilallists didn't see the article in the Herts Advertiser and/or can't count into double figures.

Hi GHA.

Stick to the oval shaped ball GHA. You have to be a UEFA Grade A coach to see the talent in t'lad. Worth every penny and a two-year contract.
