Ok, we won, and looked ok after making the subsitutions, but Gary and Steve really have a lot to answer for with the team selection.

Most of us seem to agree that a team of Wilmot; Moran, Townley, Campbell, Naylor: Hollenbach, Castle, Challinor, Oakes: Crawshaw, Martin. (Evans, Smith, De Souza, Brown, Roberts as subs)

But the supremo's seem to feel the need to select their "mates" Brown and Smith, both of whom should really only be accomodated on the bench. Smith again tonight was a passenger and only came into the game when "gobbing off" to the ref as seems customary. Brown cannot play passing football and was twice easily outpaced. He also gives the ball away far too easily and un-necessarily therefore allowing the opposition to dictate the game. And the fact Townley was removed when we reverted to 4-4-2 made a mockery of what has got us to the top of the table. Surely the system that served us so well during the opening 7 games was working, but in the Kingstonian and then Hitchin games, the managment chose, in their wisdom to play players out of position and we dropped 5 points out of six available to us.

But, that said, i like most other Saints fans am very happy with what we've seen, but basically chaps, "if it aint broke, don't fix it"

Some good points Tone, but where were Kean and Hollenbach last night? On the subs bench?

Must admit we struggled until the 'old heads' came on the field and Steve Castle tightened up the middle, allowing Challinor more time and space to go forward.

Richard Evans, good player as he is, is not an attacking midfielder by any stretch of the imagination.

The last ten minute were more like the first seven games, play like that on Saturday and we'll slaughter them!

A trifle negative, you two. Were we at the same game?

Champagne football, it was, for the first 70 minutes. Creativity and flair - we had it in spades. Ball control, skill, teamwork, time, pace - loads of it. And didn't t'lads look comfortable playing the preferred 3-5-2 formation.

The Subs bench? Weeell. Good players, all, but all a little defensively minded if you ask me. Set out the stall. An attacking line-up from the start. Enfield are at the bottom of the League, after all. Keen and Hollenbach? They are there to come on and close the game down once the quicker, flair players have opened up a 3 or 4 goal lead.

Anyway. It worked a treat last night.

I don't know anything about football.
