Colchester Match

Stu,

I think you have done a pretty good summing up there mate but what about the other players that have left one way or another :

Pullen / Wilko - are we confident the replacement(s) are going to be as good.

Roy - llke him or not we need a target man replacement as good as or better.

Macca - almost certainly going to miss most of this season.

PLUS I believe we never filled the vacuum left by the Shearer/Moore departures as we lacked a dominating CH for the latter part of the season. If Smith gets injured/suspended (ref last season)

that will leave us with Macca2, an often injured Porter $ Gooding - how many times have we had 2 central defenders out? While Daish has gone someway to replace players I still do not believe we are as strong as the team that ended last season let alone improving it (I know there is still time). Sleepless nights!

Have to agree, I have stated before that I believe this season we should be looking for a big step forward, if it meant shelling out a bit (OK Smith has cost) to take the team up a grade we should do it, OK i'm not in any way familiar with the clubs finances, so i'll no doubt be criticised by many, but every season we seem to make do, especially with the amount of strikers we have in the squad.

Roy and Manny did OK but who was there pushing them in reserve when injury or loss of form struck?

This season is looking to be the same, unless Liam has a surprise in store, and now with the keeper situation it all has a familiar look about it.

Believe me I really want to be proved wrong but I do have serious concerns for the coming season.

Really? I thought it was common knowledge that McCarthy, Gooding, MacDonald, Bowry, Slatter and Smith were full-time and the rest were part-time at present.

Great. So the full timers can play a 3-a-side game when the part timers aren't there. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

The potential logistical problems training brings when some players are part-time and others full-time isn't relevant to the statement that I queried. I was merely pointing out that people do know which players are full-time and which ones aren't, contrary to your suggestion.

You're not suggesting the club should go gung-ho into full-time football and employ a 100% full-time squad, thus losing our better part-time players and leading to a massive squad overhaul, are you?

What is the point of going full time at all when the club can't even afford to keep the ground in a reasonable state of repair, let alone be in a financial position to have a tilt at promotion.

The only "full time" players we can afford are those guys who have dropped out of the full time game at a higher level into non-league football or gone abroad and quite simply are not capable of getting a job outside football, so by default it makes them "full time"

As we have seen many times in the past, the main reason we can't recruit high quality players to the club is because they demand too higher wages, it's not important whether you call them part-time or full-time is it?

Please re-arrange these words into a well known saying "BEFORE HORSE PUTTING CART THE THE"

Well, Gledhill certainly, but there wasn't a lot the club could have done about that, given his commitments with the police. As for Pullen, Dave's account of the events leading to his departure suggests the club had sensible reasons for not automatically offering Pullen the year's extension to his contract.

I can honestly say I thought he was rubbish pretty much every time I watched him.

Shame really as when he first started, I thought that he could have turned into a sort of Craig Bellamy type (not a w**k*r) - hardworking hassling sort of player.

Shame he didn't.
