Thats not what I see when I come to maidstone. See the gills, or get a coach to charlton for £5 return, get a fair priced ticket and see a premiership side, even if you are not a charlton fan, to see a premiership opposition is many people idea of football. Ok so they don't support charlton, but at the end of the day they have paid charlton to enter and watch a game of football. If you had a choice of watching Man U or Arsenal play at charlton, would you not pay to see that at charlton? Be honest.

Hang on! Lets’s get this right – you said ‘Charlton have your fans!’.

That’s not strictly true then is it? Charlton have attracted supporters who happen to reside in the Medway area – that doesn’t mean they have stolen our fans does it? I bet there are very few (if any) Gills fans who have discarded their Gills scarf’s and season tickets and gone up to the Valley on these coaches. Quite frankly if they live in Medway and don’t support Gillingham then there not worth a toss anyway are they? Charlton are welcome to them. All they are is clueless numpties who’ve been attracted to football since 1996 or the invention of the Premier League or whatever. Most football lads who travel to watch their teams play have no respect for these fools anyway – they’re probably the same idiots who used to follow the London Monarchs when a few years ago – middle class clowns.

As an infrequent visitor to this forum, I guess very few of you "regulars" take too much notice of me.

However, its interesting to see that my predictions of Mr Daish building a "Conference relegation squad" out of what was an "adequate Conference survival squad" is starting to dawn on you all I think.

Our previous squad was never going to be in the play-offs, nor was Fordy the greatest manager in the world but at least we looked strong and other managers in the Conference stated that fact many times with comments like "you know your going to have a tough 90 minutes when you play the Fleet ...."

Daish has bombed out our Conference "steady Eddies" and replaced them with ex-league has-beens and lads from lower leagues. Both of which are always easy to sign and show his lack of ability to sign real Conference players.

I'll be there every week cheering the lads on but I think the Colchester game was a clear indication of what poor squad we have - remember 9 years ago our Southern League totally outplayed Colchester in the FA Cup and beat them easily, now we lose 6-0!

I think we'll be relegated by Christmas

I expect a backlash to this thread, but why not wait until Christmas, I'd so love to be proved wrong.

Personally, I hope that you are well off the mark on this but have to say I agree with some of the points you have made.

Have to say that it has got less pretty to watch since Liam took over.

Fingers crossed it will come together when the season starts.

Have Drury and Saunders signed up for next season yet as I am presuming that they were on one year contracts?

RR, you may be infrequent on here, but your posts are well thought out, and although sometimes a bit negative, are always welcomed as they promulgate good debate.

On this one I reckon you are right.

The analogy is with Welling. They have signed a shedfull of ex Fleet players, nearly all of whom are Conf. experienced, they have instantly blended as a team, spirit, crowds and expectations are high, and I think they are strong candidates for promotion.

We all know it takes 10 -15 competative games to meld as a team, which will takes us into November, by which time the damage has been done.

In any business, be it commercial or football, you simply do not get rid of staff/players unless you have a replacement lined up.

Here we are, 3 weeks to go before our league starts, with 2 strikers at the club,(1 of whom is still proving his fitness), no keepers on the books) and no-one apart from those inside the club knowing who in the squad is actually full time and part time.

Most clubs around us have already formalised their squads and are getting used to each other. I know we are only 2 matches into pre-season, but we appear to be MILESs away from our best 15 needed for away games at Grays, Hereford and Exeter.

Maybe Liam is working hard to recruit additional players, but he is neither as eloquent nor as forthcoming as Andy in letting us, the paying fans, know what is happening.

The big step up simply doesn't appear to be happening at the moment, although I hope it does.

Blimey !

I can't believe you guys are actually agreeing with my analysis of the sutuation.

I tend to be realistic rather than "negative" but believe me I've "Fleet red blood" running through my veins and it hurts me to see things going wrong like this.

We had fairly solid squad which had lost its way a bit under Fordy and a change was correct but all it needed was to have better players brough it very slowly if and when they could be recruited.

And indeed no goalkeeper - what manager in his right mind would have got rid of Wilko when he hadn't secured things with Pullen (both big strong Conference keepers), leaving us facing the start of the season looking at trialists.

I could go on for hours ......

Yep, he's going to have a lot of success in the transfer market if he limits himself to Conference players only, isn't he?

Somehow I find that hard to believe.

Stand by the tea bar, by any chance?

Really? I thought it was common knowledge that McCarthy, Gooding, MacDonald, Bowry, Slatter and Smith were full-time and the rest were part-time at present. Whatever criticisms you level against the club's efficiency at disseminating information, they have been very precise in their press releases regarding the signing of new contracts as to whether the player will be full-time or part-time.

It all looks worrying, but looking at the players let go versus the ones brought in:

OUT - Bunce / IN - Smith (surely if Smith is the prospect he's claimed to be, that's an improvement)

OUT - Gledhill / IN - Gooding (Gledhill's departure couldn't be helped, and Gooding looks to be a decent replacement)

OUT - Pinnock / IN - MacDonald (we'll see, but Pinnock's no loss in my opinion, and MacDonald has at least scored a few in the Conference)

OUT - Sidibe / IN - Slatter, Bowry (no contest, though they're different types of midifielder)

So although we need a striker and a goalkeeper, and these will be Daish's biggest bungles if we don't get them, the man-for-man replacements in other areas are an improvement, hardly a dismantling of a Conference squad.
