Tonight's game

Margate Don

Just a couple of things, Denver Birmingham played the whole second half at right back and struggled a bit. The striker sub who looked quite good and scored our goal was Sylvester Nnarudi, he also played a couple of friendlies last year. Agree that Chapman (ex Dover, Folkestone, etc I think - although there's two Danny Chapman's which doesn't help) looked solid, Standen put in a couple of lovely crosses and the other trialist who did well was a little guy who came on in midfield during the second half. Pretty sure he was Dexley Fidyk, definitely him or Jamie Onoragbon. Anyway, got stuck in and played the ball around well too. Sub keeper was Paul Egan, ex Folkestone and son of Cliff. We looked pretty decent all round last night, a few players away from being a good side.

Is it right that Keister played at the back? I assume that's where CK wants him this season. He played really well there in an emergency role last season. However, that will mean we need a new midfielder. What I have heard about Chapman is that he is a good player but does have discipline problems.

Yes, JK played at the back all game. As good as at the end of last season. Chapman had one minor spat with the ref, as I recall. Clearly needs to shed a few pounds. Obviously experienced.

Green seemed over enthusiastic. I worry that he will get himself injured again. Hopefully he will calm down with experience and hopefully he will sign. To my mind Mitten is a vast improvement in goal, over last seasons keepers. Good handling and cross saving. Must help the defence.

Not sure if anything should be read into it, but upon talking to CK after the match and pointing out we needed a decent strike, CK just said "Don't worry, the Strikers are on there way"

... Then again at the beggining of the match he had said "Rocky is in the changing room" then laughed loudly and said "Wow, it's that easy to start a rumor..."

Evening didnt start too great when the directions took us to a council estate! Then, when we got in to the ground, the red kit and the many new faces made us think "Are we at the right match?" First half was quite poor - but Gradley, Green, Keister and Chapman looked good from the beginning. I would probably say that Tonbridge had the better of the first half, and i believe we played a 5-3-2.

The second half was much more promising, as i believe we went to a 3-5-2. We dominated the midfield in the second half, and Chapman put in an excellent performance as the holding midfielder. Gradley looked very good throughout the match, as did Green. Of the others, i was particuarly impressed with number 11, 15 (for the way he took his goal) and 16. I thought the defence looked assured with Keister, Billy and Barnett, and Mitten made difficult saves look easy (in particular the header from inside the penalty area). Quite a strong Gate contingent at the game. All in all, the quality of the game was not great (but what else would you expect from a pre-season friendly), but it was a pleasing result - especially considering Tonbridge beat Sutton in their previous game. If we sign some of those players: the future's bright, the future's Blue!

SECOND HALF WE LOOKED FITTER AND STRONGER THAN THEM. SOME NICE TRIALISTS AND AN EXCELLENT GOAL HE COULD EASILY HAVE COCKED IT UP

14 starts and 13 sub appearances hardly suggests a man that couldn't even make the bench. It's great to see some other players wanting to stay on, and be involved with the first game at the new look hartsdown park. Its also encouraging to see other players not with us last year, wanting to be part of the squad. Good signs for more forthcoming friendlies and eventually the season ahead. As for Moses, I really hope he stays, during his time he has shown signs of quality and now with Che and most likely Rocky gone, it is his chance to really shine and get himself into the team week in week out

FF supports Ramsgate John so take no notice. Agree if Moses stays this will be his big chance to shine.

Good to see you at Sandwich CC the other night & put a face to a name! Your brother's team did pretty good considering the opposition!

We will try and persuade those 13 that go to watch Ramsgate to come along. That will swell the gate. Mind you will there be room for their heads to get through the turnstiles I wonder!.

John, how many goals did he score last season? Sorry to be negative but we need a more prolific marksman up front. He cannot fill the boots of Che and Rocky and he is too lightweight.

Remember a couple of years ago Sam Sodje trialled for us in the final pre-season friendly after being rejected by Gravesend! Who knows what CK has up his sleeve for the rest of pre-season?
