ok, here's a subject that always opens up the nostalgia floodgates!

what is the greatest ever kids programme?

also, do you think kids have it better today?

personally I used to absolutley love Fireman Sam,along with Bangers and Mash(anyone remember them?) However, The A-Team were also a firm favourite,if they count.

I don't think kids have it better today, I mean has anyone actually seen the Tweenies? Although, there's a programme on CITV about these engines and things that live on a construction site, and they're friends and they have all these adventu.....Ok,I'll stop now.

Well, there's the one and only 'rentaghost' which I remember which was a classic.

Anyone remember a kiddies programme called 'Galloping Galaxies'? I only remember it because they used Kenneth Williams' voice for one of the characters.

Then there's the cartoons, Ullyses, Cities of Gold, Transformers and, of course, the wonderful Dangermouse. Who hasn't seen a ref and visualised them as Penfold???

Who could forget He-Man, ever just wanted skeletor to win?

Or the truly awful Pat Sharpe's 'Fun House' only years later would they realise it was neither fun nor a house.

It was better when I was a kid but there was some real cr@p!!

Tiswas! Never bettered!

Kids these days have more Tv and Computer games and the net and so forth so if we were still kids we'd of liked that. But in hindsight kids today are all cloned, have no imagination or creativity and their whole world seems to revolve around violence. We have a whole generation of kids that all look the same, wear the same clothes and support the same teams, buying the Top 40.

I'd hate to be a kid these days!

I'll throw my hat into the ring on this one...

Tiswas (Today Is Saturday Watch And Smile) started in 1974 ansd "Today Is Saturday", and ran in the Midlands only until about 1979 - even after that, certain ITV regions still didn't show it (if, for example, you meet someone from the south coast who claims to have watched Tiswas, they're either lying or delusional - they showed a programme down there called "The Saturday Banana", hosted by Bill Oddie, instead. It went off air in 1982 after the ITV franchise re-shuffle, although the Tiswas adult show ("OTT" - basically Tiswas with naked ladies) limped on for a further year. Everybody around here's memories are based on just two years of it.

May I also suggest the following: Hong Kong Phooey/Wacky Races/The Perils Of Penelope Pitstop (etc), The Double Deckers, The Banana Splits (Fleagle The Beagle, Bingo The Gorilla, Snorky The Elephant & Drooper The Lion), Chorlton & The Wheelies and Battle Of The Planets.

I may even be able to out-nerd RT on the video ownership front, owning, as I do, 2 Roobarb & Custard Videos, 3 Hours Of Captain Caveman, A Six Tape Box Set Of The Muppets, a compilation of Public Information Films called "Charley" & a CD compilation of Hanna Barbera theme tunes. I'm building up to purchasing a double video box set of the first series of "Scooby Doo" as we speak. I'm not currently sure if my Spangles and Soda Stream addled brain could take it.
