Maidenhead losing another player

Taken from non league daily

Francis Vines, manager of Nationwide Conference National club Crawley Town, took the opportunity to have a look at a handful of triallists when they entertained Millwall on Saturday.

Lee Blackburn and Lewis Cook (pictured) both did their bids to earn permanent deals no harm.

Former Norwich trainee Blackburn, 19, a tenacious central midfielder, did not look out of his depth against seasoned pros, while ex-Wycombe, Windsor & Eton and Maidenhead United man Cook's pace down the left wing tore the Lions apart in the second half.

The other triallists were former Aldershot Town and Yeovil Town defender Chris Giles, Australian centre back Arthur Diles and 18-year-old right back Micky Hubbard, who has recently been released by AFC Bournemouth.

Vines knows there is still room for improvement, which is why he is trying to recruit more players.

He is close to signing a midfielder who has been having trials with Peterborough and a young player who has been training with Darlington.

Vines said: "Things are going very well concerning those two and I hope to have them done before I go away."

Heard he's also played for Aldershot in pre-season. I have a mate who watches Farnborough and he said Lewis Cook was charging down every ball and working his socks off.

Can't be the same one! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
