Shaun Allaway

To be honest, I don't really think I'm too bothered. Much happier that Parky has stayed than Shaun, because after being excellent to start off with, Michael soon shone above Shaun and fully deserved his starting place ahead of him at the end of the season.

Best of luck to Shaun though, seemed a genuinely nice guy and can't be too bad if Derby wanted him last season!!

Shaun is a good keeper who just lacks a bit of confidence. Last season he made the best save I've seen in many years at any level of football away to Heybridge in the Bryco semi final when he managed to tip over a point blank bullet header. Those of us who saw it just stood in amazement that he'd even seen it let alone saved it.

I don't think we should underestimate the part he would have played in Parky's development either. It's a shame he had to go to Staines though.

agreed, whilst I always favoured Parkin, that was not to say i didn't rate allaway... i do think it was a confidence thing with him and on his day he was a good shot stopper....and undoubtedly he will have passed on some wisdom to young parky....

and just to highlight ian's point, its always a shame to see players go to staines...

Don't think you'll see many better shot stoppers than Allaway in the league, but as others have said, unfortunately, it was the other aspects of his game which let him down, most notably his communication, in the latter part of the season. But, regardless of the fact he's gone to Staines, I wish him all the best there and hope he gets back into the pro game.

Agree with general thread, as i was saying for most of the season Parky is better, not taking anything away from Shaun, as he was a quality goalkeeper on his day, unfortunately his days wern't tuesdays or saturdays <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Nah seriously good keeper and best of luck to him!

So then, Staines now have Allaway, Mike Murphy and CJ, and have had Spencer and Rav Braich play in friendlys for them. Are they trying to become Slough Town Old Boys or something?

Agree with most of the sentiments above. Parkin deserved his place in the team at the end of last season and given the reduced budget that we're all pretty sure we're operating from, this is an acceptable loss to the squad. I wouldn't mind betting though that Allaway has gone to Staines because they have a few high profile friendlys and wants to remind teams in the league that he stills exists.

Best of luck to him
