Sorry Tone. I did notice guys kicking around. Didnt realise you were there. Besides with my job, of having to chase after scum, I keep pretty fit anyway, and walking miles a day up & down the train.

Monday late afternoon. About 13 guys there, 9 of which were sitting around doing nothing. Even if this was a tea-break surely they could arrange it so that only 2 or 3 were resting at one time. Whilst not trying to be too negative we do only have three weeks before the first game and whilst the holes for the floodlights are now dug we still need those lights erected, exterior fencing to be sorted and pitch perimeter fencing still needs to be done also. As it stands it is still looking like a building site in the main and it would be great if the ground were looking a bit more decent(pitch looking good) to away visitors and to new or old Margate people wishing to come along again to matches.

The place is ready and able to host a game should the need arise and adequate facilities I believe are in place to stage a game but these guys at the ground sitting around are delaying, could be holding up other sub-contractors works and must surely be costing the club by doing so.They need to shift their backsides I think.

Hopefully the lights, both pitch perimeter and ground (outer) fencing will either be repaired or renewed within the next three weeks.(Cannot understand why sub-contractors could not have started on outer ground perimeter fencing by now!)

This is by no means a panic post but it is an observation from my visit yesterday and are things that need both stepping up and sorted.

"They need to shift their backsides I think."

How long were you watching these builders? For all we know they may have finished their tasks for the day.

They were largely standing about at half 3 when I walked by.

There are plenty of other things they could be doing, like sorting out the fencing next to Tivoli Park.

Was the water pipe found in the end? I remember the appeal for a metal detecter but we heard no more news on that one.

Although that was a possibility, I grant you, I believe that that wouldnt have been the case. I was there for adequately long enough to have come to my conclusions and unless you were there at the time you couldnt possibly understand or comment on what was seen. There is no excuse to be sitting around on mass, doing nothing. It was not that close to the end of the day for a complete downing of tools. There is plenty to do elswhere within the ground.

Your comments were fair. I just say what I see and have given no indications to anyone that I have in any way the assets that you endow on me. It is quite sensible to anyone to come to such conclusions. Would you hang about at your place of work if you had finished your days work? Thanks for the sarcasm in reply to a genuinely concerned & informative post.

No.The Builders DONT live in caravans. It is the foreigners that do and though some of them were the people in question,I say to you again, why didnt they leave the site if they had finished their days work,or go their caravans instead of sitting on equipment talking. Its obvious you just seem to be an argumentative person so its no good trying to convince you. I may be wrong in my assumptions, I may be right, but if they ARE lazing about and taking things easy then it needs addressing quickly.

last anon was me it didnt log in. wasnt trying to argue just thought they lived there as when i passed at 10pm the other night they were several men sitting outside the vans (unless they work extreamly late), im sure they have a task per day and keep to the time table.

as in any buisness if you go ahead of a task u are paid double time, ok so the project moves faster but costs more. long as its on time im sure it will be finished with ages to spare

Whether nine people were having a break together or seperately it amounts to the same amount of time that work is not being done. Having a break together keeps moral up in the workplace and keeps the workers working together, which is what we need to get HDP finished. Simple.

cookie has a point anon which I think you have missed. When the majority of the workforce decide to have a break it halts the work completely. Wouldnt it be better for the work to continue but to have a few people have breaks at staggered times? That way the job doesnt suddenly halt and the people get their breaks.

Talking about morale? This isnt exactly hard labour. They get paid to do the job.

These builders have a boss who has to report to another boss and so on...

Do you really think the club and the contractors would be happy to let them bum around? Christ, you lot really like scaremongering, don't you? Or maybe a case of it's the close season and we need something to talk about.

Good grief, I agree with an anon!

There is a schedule of works and a project manager. I think it is more appropriate for this person to judge if work is proceeding to plan than a passer-by, however interested.

I'll bet the people who are working so hard to deliver Hartsdown to us for next season are motivated by and grateful for this kind of comment.

I understand Cookie's point, but my point is that either way the same amount of work is being done, so from a Project Managers point of view there is no problem. As for morale - everyone gets paid to do a job, it doesn't mean they enjoy it.
