Saints 0 - 0 Brighton

Recommended Posts

Entertaining game against the first team squad of a Championship side.

They were marginally sharper and quicker to the ball as you would expect from full-timers, but Saints equalled them with skill.

Paul Bastock produced a brilliant point-blank save in the first half to deny them in the best chance of the game and Tom Beech went agonisingly close for a shock win for the Saints but couldn't quite slide the ball in from a mis-cued shot by one of the subs.

On this showing both teams look good defensively, and the summer signings for the Saints look good value but the second striker position is a worry, though Hakim should fill the gap on his return from holiday.

Was Graham no.7? If so I thought he was pretty rubbish, just ran down the wing every time in the corner flag and not be able to do anything. He could of passed to crackers a lot of the time. Thought he really ran the midfield. Reading the new programme, I have 2 complaints, firstly, on the honours page it doesnt say we won the HSC 2005. Secondly, Ben Walshe is advertised in the programme, any reason for this? Apart from that if seems pretty good. Anybody know why Martin didnt play friday?

I enjoyed the game. (I must say I like the evening kick offs in summer. There's quite a mellow vibe as the sun sets. Must be getting old!) I thought Graham played OK, he managed to get several good crosses into the box. Couldn't believe the missed "chance" towards the end - so close! Beech was off side though, wasn't he? I think Lee Clarke needs to calm down sometimes - it shows that he cares and is committed - but at certain times in the second half I thought he might have got into trouble if it wasn't a friendly. Ah well, looking positive for the start of the new season.

Hi MWS.

"SKINT" is the record label of FatboySlim, apparently.

A decent performance on Friday although I would be worried if I was a Seagulls fan. We improved in the second half, I thought, possibly as they changed their team but I felt that Dean 'Christmas' Cracknell picked up the pace.

I saw Webbo at the game. It takes you back a year or two, does that. Good crowd, too.

Now that chap could write a match report. None of this 'stats & facts' stuff. Poetry. Art. He also knows that Kalam Mooniaruck is a 'Championhip Manager Legend' and once described t'lad as such in one of his pieces.

Pulsating.

I managed to make it down to the park for the first time in a few years and I was impressed with what I saw.

Having followed from afar the impressive turn of form at the start of the year, and reading that a number of the players have stayed, I think we must be in a good position to make the playoffs.
