Sir Alex stood by him when he was blatantly caught out for doing charlie by 'forgetting' a drugs test, the guy was still paid his £60k a week or whatever he's on during his 8-month ban, and this is how he repays Man Utd's loyalty.

If I were Sir Alex I'd say this:
a) sign the contract (obviously)
put in a transfer request (that way they won't have to pay him anything for selling him) and his selling price is X million pounds, not a penny less and see what happens.
c) Tell him he's staying for the final 2 years of his contract on 80K a week, but he's not going to play any foootball for the club either first team or reserve then see how much he can command in wages in 2 years time when he's lost his England place and hasn't played competative football for 2 years.
