James Pullen...

Recommended Posts

The back of the Reporter says that James Pullen has been un-contactable. However, his father says his spoken to Ron Hillyard.

Its unlikely we will get told the full story (maybe both parties are to blame) but for the Club to go public and say he has been uncontactable when he clearly hasn't really annoys me.

Personally feel his a good keeper (League Standard) and will be a loss. I don't blame him for going elsewhere if he needs a regular source of income.

The thing I don't get is that with the Club going full-time, and James' only source of income being football he is the first player we should have signed on a full-time contact at the end of last season.

Why did this not happen? And if I was a manager and needed to get hold of a player that was un-contactable I'd go round to his address and bang on his door to find out what was going on? I'd certainly not rely on the postal system!

Maybe the Club didnt want to pay his wages over the summer?

As I said previously, why couldn't Liam/Brian sat James down in the office, thrashed out a new contract and signed it in May. Contracts have to signed in person. Many in fact are signed in front of the press/fans.

Clearly Pulls was going to be one of most important players for this year, everything possible should have been done to get him on board this season.

Clearly there has been a communication breakdown somewhere along the line, so it is back to square one with triallists.

Whats happened here is a player has seen the light of league one football and attempted to take it probably throwing insults at the manager has he walked out of the door.

Since he has been 'uncontactable by anyone at the club' if he has been throwing insults at the manager he can't have thrown them very far.

Harry if any of our players wouldn't jump at the chance of league one football then there is either something wrong with them or they should be thinking about retiring.

I don't know the facts about why Pullen isn't with us this season but the fact I do know is this, last season we had two good keepers fighting for one spot now they have both gone. If we don't have someone better than Pullen or Wilko playing for us in August then the club have made a bad mistake.

How daft of me...............

Theres me thinking that the news that the Fleet were to become a professional outfit from 2005/06 would mean that the club would begin to act in a far more professional manner overall, how wrong can I be.

Even if the club didn't want to sign Pullen for this season, surely common decency should have meant that he was told and not left wondering what the hell was going on. Or, which seems more likley, if it was the case that the club did want him to sign this season, but delayed confirming that they wanted him to sign a new contract so that they did not have to pay his wages through the summer then the club have got what they deserve.

Or is it the case the Liam Daish always intended bringing-in another one of his 'mates' from a previous club??

The point of a letter sent by Registered or Recorded Delivery post is that it is traceable and indeed its progress can be folowed on the Royal Mail website. It would be expected to be delivered within 1 or 2 days of being posted. The sender would then make enquiries to ensure it had been signed for by the recipient. Therefore if it hadn't arrived as you suggest might be the case the sender could take further action. This would have been probably 2 weeks maximum after the letter had been sent. So did the Club do this or was the letter never sent? Also, what was the outcome of any similar letters sent to other players where an option for a further year existed?

Also as the player was already potentially a continuing employee ( as he had been under contract already ), it is likely that at least basic terms of the further employment would have been included within the original contract. It is almost inconceivable that there would have been no oral communications prior to despatch of any such letter. If the Club had intended J Pullen to be its employee this season then I am sure that they would have contacted him one way or the other. The indications are that he was in fact being released as he was no longer subject to a contract.

I spoke to the Director's today to find out what happened.

At the end of last season, Liam was becoming concerned about James' fitness, as he had put on a stone in weight, and was coming into the dressing room complaining that he didn't feel up to playing.

In the circumstances Liam offered was offered the same deal as Manny, which was to go away during the close season, get yourself back in shape and then come back at the start of preseason training and a new contract would be discussed.

Whereas Manny has worked hard and come back fit and raring to go, James has obviously decided that his future lies elsewhere and did not report back for training.

So a bit of a fuss about nothing in this thread to a certain extent, then.

That said, Slarti's point still rings true - if our replacements for Pullen and Wilko are not of a similar or better standard, then the club will have clearly lost out in their course of action. Of course, we won't know the answer to this until after the pre-season friendlies and indeed beyond, so it's best to reserve judgement at present.

Once again, Dave, thanks for your sterling work in ekeing out the information.
