I know the transfer market is stagnant at the moment, but for goodness sake the season starts in 4 weeks time and we need about 5 or 6 top quality signings to make it happen this year, and I cannot see that happening.

We're not the only ones!

Interesting point by Terry Brown that a lot of league-club trials will end soon, with available unsuccesful players looking for the next step down, the Conference.

My point precisely, Jim. I put a suggestion to the club, in wrtiting, about a month ago regarding the club selling books of tickets in batches of 3, 6 and 10 tickets, at discounted prices. Mini season tickets, if you like. This scheme has been adopted by a number of clubs, and from what I can gather, has proved very popular.

What has been the Fleet's response - not even an acknowledgement of the suggestion.

This is just one of many examples of the apparent apathy and disregard for the fans that the club gives itself.

It may have been an unworkable or impractical idea, but how long does it take to reply by e-mail "thanks for the idea, but sorry, no can do."

At least I would know the club are listening to the fans.

Perhaps Messrs Daish and Kimble should take a peek at this forum, which is probably as near as you can get to the true voice and opinion of the fans.

No doubt we'll have to wait until we've seen the trialists in action before we start envisaging a 2003-2004-esque start to the season.

And Harry - thanks for that revelation.

Having read all the posts I feel as James father that I need to clarify anumber of points. He signed a contract to the end of season 2004/5 with an option for a second season. To exercise the option a letter must be sent by the club to the player by recorded/registered post to be received before the last game of the season. No such letter was received and therefore the contract has been terminated.Had the option been exercised he would have been there for pre-season training.Having been fulltime at Peterborough , Gravesend was his only source of income and with no income since the end of the season he cannot afford to wait in the hope of an offer from Gravesend and has had to explore all options available. He has received no communication from the manager apart from a letter notifying him when training starts. He has however been in touch with Ron the goalkeeping coach to explain the situation so he is not unobtainable.Anyway James would like to thank the supporters who have been very fair to him and goodluck for next season

Still doesn't explain why James was dropped towards the end of last season? Circumstances that I believe are down to the player!

However we do appreciated you coming in here to give James' side of the story. Every story obviously has two sides and maybe it was a bit of the club and a bit of the player that were to blame.

Also I can't think of any reason why Daish would have it in for you son. If James was willing and eager enough then Daish would have given him the chance. Why was he given a trial by Forest? Could it be that a football got dellusions of grandure? Surely not.

So if no letter exercising the option of a second year is sent by the club to its player ( a clear statement that the player is not to be retained ), why would the manager expect him to turn up for pre-season training? Did he not know that the option had not been taken up? Even if the player had yet to arrange another club he still wouldn't be expected to turn up for training. This is very odd.

I think you will find that James' dad said it wasn't received not that it wasn't sent, I'm sure that we have all had wonderful experiences of the Post Office losing things so let's not jump to conclusions until we are told it wasn't sent.

The whole point in registered/recorded post is that the letter has to be physically delivered and signed for by the recipient. If the letter is not signed for, a note is left through the door. James' Dad was quite clear on this point and he has nothing to gain by lying. As he said, Fleet were his sons only form of income and it seems that he's been poorly treated so we cant complain that he's off trialing at other clubs. Nevertheless, is there no way the club can make a formal apology to him and get him back? Anyway, best of luck James in your career.

No offence Matt but I don't see how the club could be blamed. Whats happened here is a player has seen the light of league one football and attempted to take it probably throwing insults at the manager has he walked out of the door.

As for sending stuff recorded/registered I have worked for many companies where we have sent stuff via this channel, things got lost on numerous occassions.

Do you know this for a fact...? 'What's happened here' followed by 'probably' makes me think not...

I HAVE spoken to Liam in person, this is how I know what went on. So its okay for everyone to come in here and slag off the club while jumping to conclusions, yet when someone defends the club this is to be criticised?

Then why not say you've spoken to Liam. Cos the conclusion I jumped to from what you posted originally was it was another 'opinion'.
