A year IS a long time in politics

Interesting leaflet posted through my door today by the "Castleview Residents Association":

"...open spaces could be under threat if Slough Borough Council's cabinet push ahead with selling off land which it holds in trust.

In January a developer was refused planning permission to build 300 homes near Upton Court Park on grounds of traffic and lack of sustainability. According to the Slough Express the developer is now offering the council up to £5 million to gain access to land for development.

Members of the overview and scrutiny committee have recommended the cabinet, which meets on July 18th, to sell the parkland. The developer will only pay the money if the planning committee changes its mind and allows development."

Funny how almost exactly a year ago Councillor Stokes was telling Slough Town supporters that the council was unable to help the club identify an alternative site for the development of a ground because there was no land left in Slough for development as it is all taken up by offices.

This is why we as an organisation should in the run up to the next council elections ..ensure people have not forgotten what a rag bag shower this (new) administration is and they certainally did not practice what their preached !

Also the sheik community got their new sports complex at muddy lane site - green belt area to go with their new school in wexham road...

when are we going to get our new allocated land for a new stadium project....

One rule for some one rule for the others....

Good luck to them ..but it is time the tide started turning in favour of a club that has been around for over 115 years !!!

Chris

I dont know if I read this right so anyone can correct me, but in the Slough Observer last week or the week before I am sure I read that the Sikhs were refused the sports centre by the council and they took it to John Prescott who overruled it and gave them the go ahead. As I say I might of read it wrong but perhaps we should try the same thing.

It certainly is. Take a brownfield site witin an area of huge deprivation that requires regeneration with private money, through sport that will leave a lasting legacy in both sport and the community.

Add a bit of political backing and you have ... The London 2012 Olympics.

Take away any political backing and you (still) have ... the Britwell tip.

Differant scale but same principles.

Wonder what part of the Olympics could be in Slough now?
