Minimum Wage forces clubs under?

There was an article in yesterday's Times that suggested that many clubs could be forced out of business and into mergers after the Inland Revenue (boo hiss) indicated that all players should be paid the minimum wage. This would include payment for time spent travelling to games. This was said to particularly hit teams from the steps in the pyramid below us were each players wages could rise by at least 40 quid per week. It quoted Gladwish saying it would be a disaster and estimates are that as many as 90 clubs could fold. It was thought that they were looking to work round this by declaring the players as amauters on expenses only.

jesus thats terrible! Whilst I understand it must be a boost for players who want to rely on playing football for a profession this could mean the ends of upper level grass roots football

I think this is the tip of the ice berg...

 

most clubs sail close to the wind and we at Slough have our fair share of problems but we are not alone by a long way....

 

So if next season the budgets have been cut and players are on smaller wages..then so be it..we have to survive as a club more than become a statistic ...
