Gate sign Goalie

Recommended Posts

Pleased with experience coming in, pleased that a keeper of Charlie's standing is attracted to us and wants to return, pleased with two year contract, as it lends a stability and forward planning element to the building of our new team for the future.

Sorry that as a consequence we will surely lose either Peter or Nej, both of whom I have a great deal of time for.

My most fervent and impatient wish is that we soon get to hear some more team news so that we know who else will be playing for us next season.

Come on, MFC, I have a shirt sponsor's wedge lined up for you, but I would like to know who I can spend it on!

Great news - always enjoyed standing at the away end with Charlie in goal as generally entertaining. Wont forget his TV moment against Cardiff wasn't it?

Re Margatefan: I E-mailed the club yesterday asking if they could update us with the current players that we have. I think people will then start to part with their money for shirt sponsorship. I have not recieved an answer but hope that they will try and update ASAP.

I think Mitten is a sound signing. Good start to our team building - will by all accounts inspire more confidence in his defence than Mr Trego, for all his flamboyance!!! If Billy and Ross stay, and JK comes back, that is the start of a good spine for the team. We all know how CK will play, so expect two fit full backs, hard working midfielders, a big guy and a pacy guy up front and a few blokes who need to be experts in bench warming!!!

I think one of most significant points here is the 2 year contract aspect.

Indicates stability and confidence.

Not many players get 2 year contracts these days, and i think most Gate players in last 2 seasons have been on one year or non contract terms even.

Maybe Charlie is just a better negotiator than Kissenger

[color:"blue"]Don't think it has much to do with Charlie's negotiating skills, it's more of a case of Chris planning his budget so that he can build a squad not just to survive this season (as was the aim last year), but to begin to rebuild the squad on a long term basis. Just as you write MM, giving an indication of stability and confidence, which in the long term will attract better players.

Over the years CK's teams have been built on the back of strong defence (that's why last season was such a shock to many of us), Charlie & CK have a history back to CK @ Dover, so it makes sense that Chris should start with someone he trusts as a foundation of the new team.

As many regulars know i am not a great Charlie fan but i bow to CK's judgement. When i saw him against us last year he played well, and seemed to have improved in the body language department. At last we have a player, know we only need around 19 others. UPWARDS and ONWARDS.
