Gate sign Goalie

Recommended Posts

The Gate has made its first signing for the new Season in goalkeeper Charlie Mitten. Many supporters will remember Charlie from his former days at Margate. Since his last stint here Charlie has played for Gravesend and Northfleet and Welling. Margate Manager Chris Kinnear said ‘I am delighted to have obtained Charlie’s signature. This significant signing will send out the message that Margate are moving forward and all the problems we have had are now in the past.’

Charlie has signed a two-year contract with the Club and we hope you will all join us in welcoming him back to the Gate!

Not such a surprise signing. He is an established keeper, good in the air and though he prances about as though he hasnt a care in the world can really do a good job for us in this league. Many clubs in this league will not have the experience of such a keeper. Looks like CK is starting from the back and sorting out the defense first before concentrating on attack.Back to basics! Nice to see Charlie back and credit to him that he has decided to come back considering he was pushed aside previously into 2nd keeper mode. Whatever you think of Charlie he HAS been re-signed and we have to welcome him back and show our support. I for one am happy that Charlie has returned. I assume Trego has departed and therefore I wish him well with his next club. He did a good job for us in difficult circumstances.

Ditto as far as Nej is concerned too. He was very patient and stuck in there. Good luck to both of them in the future, assuming they have BOTH gone of course.

Fair enough point John, though I cant say Smithy was too clever in that department either. Our opinions obviously differ on that one,but yes, assertiveness in and around the area are essential qualities for any keeper.

The least surprising signing ever ?! Think people are being very harsh on Charlie - don't forget he was in goal for our 1st Conference season when we were amazingly successful.

A good signing IMO someone with a lot of Conference experience. Charlie was always a good keeper and was kept out by probably the best keeper in the conference at the time.

well the way i look at it mitten>ward so we are already doing better then last season.

But what worries me is have we lost treago?

Agree totaly that defence was atrocious last season;although i do not blame Ward or Trego.

Yes both let in a few clangers but so will Charlie and most keepers.

Its whose in front of them that counts.

Again, i can;t see Trego being second fiddle, so also wish him well and would be happy if he is still around to see Nej retained to compete with Charlie

Didn't see Grays at home, then? Ward gave an, er, interesting display that night! And I never had confidence in Trego. A good keeper breeds confidence in the rest of the defence.

To Cookie i think anon was talking about the stick charlie got in another thread when the rumour of him re-signing first came about.

So are ANNONS. Real big mistakes. However even Annons have their view. He is signed and will be our keeper and from what I saw of him in the past he was more than an adequate keeper and his experience will be an important part of the re-building process. All keepers make errors of judgement at times and Charlie will not be an exception but on the whole I didnt see him making too many errors when here previously.Aerial crosses are his strength and that was a big downfall with our defence last year. He's here,he's signed and thats that! Good luck to him.
