Morning Gary,

I haven't been up to the ground today or since the downpour though it was mentioned elsewhere that a covering was on the turf immediately previous to the rain falling. I presume this was to protect it from the heat the turf was getting, and may be get nightime moisture into it.I dont know as I am not a gardener. It is my sincere hope that our groundsman had read the weather report and got to the ground in time to move these covers, assuming there were actual covers on there in the first place, as was mentioned in order for to give the rain a chance to soak in. Unhappily the actual rain we did get was more than likely not ample enough to actual put the life into the turf in the way that we would wish. We do have a first class groundsman, therefore I am sure he has things in hand but more rain would undoubtedly help the cause.I shall be looking in sometime this week to see if the "browness" has disappeared and to chat to our groundsman,if he is around. Am sure he will be as he seems to be treating the turf like his child/baby in that it seems he is spending more time at the ground than at home these days. Will get back to you once I get his report on this. Dont think we really have a massive problem at the moment but future rain will of course help the situation no-end..

Cheers for the update, Tony. I guess every football groundsman is stuck with the same problem at the moment. What is needed is lots of rain and sun in equal proportions. Knowing the Brithish summer, we eiother get a heatwave and a drought or one of those clod wet summers that are best forgotten!

good luck,,

I believe they have concreted a slope near to bottom turnstiles, which have to be used this year.A slope up from the turnstiles to the pitch. Not only is the rise much more than before but it has to be built now for wheelchairs.

My point there was that at least they have built something. Am interested to know though why that so-called building site hasnt come into play(apart from that slope being built). Wheres the workers that were supposed to be swarming all over the place?

The workers were putting in shuttering for the path/pitch fence.KP was there organising this morning and i hear he had his overalls on yesterday and was getting stuck. talk about leadership from the top.

Working close to Margate today so I popped in to HDP to see how things were progressing at about 1pm. Great to see a pitch again but I was concerned at the brown grass at the social club end and in patches elsewhere. There was one small sprinkler working on the old stand side but that was all. Four or 5 workmen ambling around (hope it was their luch break!) and one digger at work concreting at old turnstile end (a ramp for disabled access I believe.) Don't want to be negative but I hope things progress at a faster pace from hereon in as lots to be done in a short space of time. Agree that rain and lots of it is desperately needed. Does anyone know what the deadline date is for building works to be completed to Ryman standards?
