Shame that the powers that be decide to penalise non-league clubs by upping the referees fees for friendlies against league opposition. This will undoubtedly be a revenue loss to non-league clubs who not only need the experiences of playing against better quality teams but also rely on the greatly needed financial benefits from such games.

Surely this new stance should be reversed quickly Not being able to have local officials officiate in these games will also prevent up and coming referees from getting vital experience. Surely this must be thought over once again and have things as before. "If it aint broken dont fix it" is the saying I believe and as far as I can see the old way worked quite adequately and never needed to be changed. Having referees make mistakes, possibly,in these games does not really matter or leave bad tastes in our mouths so having so-called higher class referees officiating is surely not a necessity.

What's your thoughts on this people? Are their ANY advantages that can be had from this absurd move?

Squirreled away near the end of the doom-mongering Non-League Paper article on the subject last week was a paragraph that admitted that clubs would only have to pay the full fee if the home team cannot find a referee themselves and have to arrange it through the authorities. Admittedly, I don't know how regular an occurrence this is, but it seems high fees won't be necessary 100% of the time.

As I read it friendlies,if including a league club, will have to be refereed by a football league referee thus the higher fees, excluding expenses. Correct me someone if I am mistaken.

The bigger drain on clubs finances for the future is on the front page of todays issue of the NLP. concerning the directive from the inland revenue over players contracts. youngsters on small contracts ie, 10,20 plus pounds a week will have to be payed a minimum wage, players will have to be payed minimum wage for the time it takes to travel to and from training/games,plus the duration. from what i can gather after a brief glance it will have to be a minimun taxable amount of around 130 pounds. this plus extra accounting cost will be another nail in the coffin for youth football. This post is from memory but is certainly wide open for debate. Also if memory serves ,Cambridge say they dont want help from the conference, forest green rovers say its to late for them to go up as do eastbourne.A mess i think. anyway up the Gaaaaaaaaate.

I think you are right on the first bit, but FGR were 'allowed back' three weeks ago.

The interesting thing to me is that Farnborough prefer to stat in conf. south to rebuild rather than avoid relegation if Cambridg do crumble.

The worrying thing is that from afar , i see warning sides in the Cambridge situation and wonder if it, is that far removed from MFC's struggles.

Remember that the Inland Reveenue and Vatman are all powerful, and are possibly seeking to show football 'whose boss' after Exeter gave them a bloody nose.

I don't think the IR have much sympathy to football clubs

Appointment of Match Officials to Non-Competition Matches

The Football Association Referees Committee met on 25th June 2005 and reviewed the Policy Document in respect of Appointments of Match Officials to Non-Competition Matches. They confirmed the following:

Match Officials are to be appointed at the level appropriate to the highest competing team.

Clubs may continue to organise their own officials, providing that they are of the appropriate level, and arrange their own remuneration.

If the appointment is made by one of the appointing authorities the match officials are, in the absence of any other agreement, to be paid the fees and travelling expenses appropriate to the competition of the lower club competing in the match by the Home Club.

As I suspected - thanks for the confirmation.
