Technical Question

I have this computer at home which I'm using now, but I also have another hard drive in the corner switched off and doing nothing.

 

Thing is, I have a few files on there I'd like to copy over to this PC.

 

Can I connect the two hard drives with a USB cable and access the other hard drive through this PC or is that not possible??

If the other hard drive is a 'portable' and has a USB port you should be able to connect it to your PC where it will show up as a new device - 'F' drive or similar in Windows Explorer.

It has a USB port, but I'm not sure what you mean by a 'portable'.

 

Basically, it's a hard drive, just like a normal hard drive on a PC.

I think it will need its own power source, unless you can connect it to the PC's power someway. The only option may be to take it to a specialist shop and see if they can download the files to CD or a USB flash drive or something.

Powering it's not a problem as it's got a plug etc.

 

If I can't connect both hard drives by USB it's not a problem - I'll just connect the monitor to the old one and copy them onto disc myself.

 

Just thought I may be able to connect the two tower-things and run my PC off both hard drives somehow.

I think PC world are taking it far too litrally, it actually stands for personal computer not police constuable!
