I reckon the best Smiths album is Strangeways Here We Come.

 

I used to love that Extreme album to.

I think they'd got a bit too 'poppy' and well-produced by Strangeways. There was a lot more than just guitar/bass/drums in the mix by then. I'll give it a re-listen, though!

Paint a Vulgar Picture is my personal favourite Smiths track I reckon.

I've only got the Supergrass album from that lot, but what an album it is!! I think I have the Wall on tape somewhere, and I do like that. Comfortably Numb is a top track - the Scissor Sisters should be shot for their bastardised version of it. Mrs Zag has got the Coral, Kula Shaker and Charlatans albums. All good albums - I prefer the first Kula album though. What do you think of the Jeevas?

 

Never got into the Smiths. I used to listen to the Janice Long show in the mid-eigthies, and she was always plsying them. I nearly smashed the radio up when she played - I think - "Frankly Mt Shankley". My cousin loved 'em, but I was more interested in The Cult, Gaye Bykers on Acid and Zodiac Mindwarp!

I've only listened to the Jeevas album a couple of times, and one or two of the tracks - Once Upon A Time In America, What Is It Worth? - aren't bad, but the appeal of Kula Shaker to me was the Indian influences, and he'd shaken that off by the time he formed the Jeevas.

Surprised to see the Extreme album there...makes me feel better about my "hair" rock days now that Zeal gives that one a vote!!!

Yeah, I loved that Extreme album. I had really long hair at 16 when that came out, desperately wanted it to look like Nuno Bettencourt's, but sadly mine was far to wiry and I was starting to lose it already by then!

 

Must listen to it again soon. See whether I still like it!!

I loved the album for years but as is with these things it eventually got filed away and not forgotten but...tastes move on.

 

I found it and played it a couple of weeks ago and smiled to myself over a couple tracks "He Man Woman Hater", "Get The Funk Out", "Pornograffiti" and "When I'm President" (I remember it well, I was just about 3 when my Dad said, "whatcha wanna be?"")...Best track on there (apart from "More Than Words") is "Hole Hearted" (which I thought was the weakest track on the album at the time...strange how time changes one's opinion).

I saw them do Hole Hearted absolutely live on the Smash Hits Poll Winners Party 1991, of all shows, and it was brilliant! (Same event that the Carter twat decked Schofield).

 

Yeah, it's a good album.

D'you what? The only Stones album I own (apart from compilations) is Satanic Majesty's Request - and that certainly doesn't make the grade.

 

Also embarrassed that there's no Jam or Bowie in there either, but again I only have comps.

Really not keen on the Clash, but I do like the Police.

 

Unfortunately again, I only have a comp. Almost bought Synchronicity the other day, mind. Their early albums are two for a tenner at HMV at the minute too.

 

Squeeze knowledge very limited.

Yeah, GHA rates it very highly too, which is normally a bad sign!
