I dont work on the railways, but even I know that the french may be obnoxious, but there trains run better than ours, christ even the steam trains in india have a better service than ours.

My comment was placed to show a comparison to mikefleet's comments but I've decided to bite at your post.

Zzzzz..... 'train service is crap' in 'rears it's ugly head again' shocker.

The train service itself isn't crap, it's the logistical complexities of it all that is the problem. Too many things, not all the fault of the various companies, can cause mayhem.

Ever thought about all the outside infuences that cause problems for the train operating company?
Perhaps the French & Indians bring their children up with certain standards that our society fails to bother with.

So vandalism, on train & track - not the rail company's fault.

Signalling or points failures - oooooh network rail.

Train failure - technically, the company that owns and leases them out. You'll be pleased to know that the new trains seen in North Kent over the last few months, class 376, appear to have a far superior 'casualty rate' - meaning they are doing several times as many 1000's of miles without any problems than those pesky networker trains.

Freight trains - be it shunting at Hoo Junction, or broken down freight trains - again different company.

Not forgetting animals on the line - cows, horses..... you name it, we get it at one time or another.

Oh yeah and nutters topping themselves when they could achieve the same net effect with a packet of paracetemol.

So it's really the train company's fault only if a driver is missing - if the driver is missing due to being delayed as a result of one of the above, then it isn't!

OK. I take your point, and take back most of what I said, I just remember my times on the trains as an absolute nightmare, and most of my journeys into london were not delayed by suicides or vandals, but down to poor track maintenance. Can you explain to me this, why are the train companies thinking of adding a congestion charge onto trains in peak times, after all, most people have to take the train because they have to be at work at 9am. Why not just say there putting the fares up again.

I just heard this today. Scandalous. Let's get people off the roads by using better public transport and charge them for road use. Right, now they're all on the trains there's too many of them... so we'd better charge the buggers again. Who's brainchild is this anyway? The relevant government department...?

Its just another example of Britain gone mad. I agree in principal that something must be done about the cars. But when you weigh up the pro's and cons of the car, unfortunately the car wins out. I mean how else do you get home from central london after 12pm, and arrive home safe and before 1:30am, answer is the car. This society we live in, is car dependent, just look at the superstores, most of them are only accessable by car.

Exactly, congestion charging on the trains has been in place for years.

Which nowadays is the responsibilty of NETWORK RAIL & not the train operating companies!

Think of it like being on a bus and the traffic lights fail - it isn't the bus company's fault.

i think the trains are alot better than they use to be, went up to Hayes in middlesex yesterday and was really good journey, went to victoria, tube to paddington then a really nice train to Hayes, then got the tube back to my office in Poplar. £19.90 for a all day ticket, cant be bad.

Or concocting a fabricated story, in the pursuit of being a troll, about supposed comments by a man who isn't even a director, perhaps.

The fella has been registered for less than 24 hours and already he’s being pulled up on a few spelling mistakes – what’s wrong with you lot eh? icon22.gif

On one hand your whinging about not being able to attract new supporters or whatever and the next minute your lining up to give any newly registered fans a going over. The lad has said or done nothing out of line – I can understand if someone comes on here using blatant txt speak because it can be a bit hard to understand if your over sixteen or so, but his messages are hardly unreadable are they?

So much for dispelling those rumours that all non-league football fans are anoraks or clueless scarfers eh? jpshakehead.gif

Brilliant!! I agree 100%. More power to your elbow mate. there are too many sad old geeks who think that they ARE the club. These goons should realise that the club was here long before them and will still be here long after they have gone.Ihave just been sarcastically checking through the posts of a certain person(Harry J),who had ago at me about my grammar (see 49ers recent posts),and believe me there is NO WAY he should point the finger at anyone <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/applaus.gif" alt="" />
