Wimbledon Preview

Recommended Posts

One of my favorite fortnights of the year starts tomorrow as Wimbledon kicks in.

My view

Timid Tim will go out without a whimper in the QF to someone good like Roddick although Roddick is on schedule to play the 6ft 10" Croat Karlovic in the 2nd round, could be a shock there as he's not seeded, I think Tim could meet Federer in the semis if he makes it through.

English Greg is still my favorite British player, how can you not like anyone with such a wicked grin. Looking at the draw Greg's only main problem could be a 2nd Round meeting with Johansson, who beat both Murray and Henman at Queens but he's a bit inconsistant, but then, frustratingly, so is Greg. The draw is quite kind to him with only the 8th/21st and 31st seeds in there to the QF where he could meet Federer, Gregs due a good Wimbledon, I'm going to stick my neck out and say he'll make the QF.

The new kid on the block Andrew Murray should get past his first round tie and then could possibly meet 14th seed Stepanek who beat and lost to Rudeski in the run up at Queens and Nottingham. This kid is the real deal and won't join the long list of failed next british hopefuls, I predict 3rd round in his debut Wimbledon.

The other brits, Joshua Goodall who I believe is a 17yr old from Harpenden plays world 92 Alessio Di Mauro, winnable but whether he does of not is another matter, he's meant to be pretty good so I'll give him the benifit and he'll make the 2nd round.

Jamie Delgado has been knocking about and failing miserably for years, he'll lose in the 1st round to 23rd seed Ferrero.

Alan Mackin will also lose to 21st seed Gondzalez in R1

Alex Bogdanovic could get past Kevin Kim but probably won't

Can't see David Sherwood getting past Ricardo Mello

To be honest you can't really look fast Federer for the tournment but if you were looking for a little outsider, go for 27th seed French teenager Richard Gasquet who won Nottingham last week.

In the womens I hope Maria Sharapova wins because she's lovely (don't know too much about womens tennis) although I think the Williams sisters should be in the mens draw.

Well, you can't knock him. Despite his bad start, he called the Federer result correctly yesterday.

I watched a bit of coverage myself last night and one of the 'expert' pundits (no idea who it was, but he guess he must have written an article in one of the Sunday papers or on a website.) went for Gasquet as his outside tip for the title.
