The Wankas strike back

Wanna know the latest then? Following a 4-1 drubbing to current Peruvian league champions Universitario, the [****!!****]as struck back with a fine 0-0 draw against the unbeaten and current league leaders Cristal (named after a Peruvian beer) on Sunday. Man of the match was the Cristal goalkeeper Delgado who made several good saves to prevent [****!!****]as from a surprise win. Nine games in, [****!!****]a are in seventh place (in a league of 12) on 12 points. Cristal have 21 points.

So if [****!!****]as aren´t quite the worst team in the world, who is?

The following is an actual (apparently) phone call on Talk Sport a day or two ago.

Presenter: We have Jim on the line who wants to discuss the Faroe Islands/Scotland game.

Jim: Thanks...er yeah. Just want to say it´s an absolute disgrace. I mean, we´re playing probably the weakest side in world football and we can´t do better than a draw.

Presenter: It was a poor result.

Jim: Poor result! Poor result! It´s absolutely scandalous. The manager has lost the plot completely, he´s got to go. I know we´ve never set the world alight over the years on the international stage but I can´t remember things being this bad. It´s the end for us. The absolute end. I can´t see us ever recovering from a setback like this. We´re a complete laughing stock.

Presenter: Look Jim. I know it seems bad now but there is still a long way to go. I can´t see you qualifying for Euro 2004 but hopefully things will improve.

Jim: I never expected for a moment we would qualify. I don´t mind that so much. We´ve not good enough. But listen, to not qualify is one thing, but to fail to beat a team like Scotland is a different matter. It´s a bitter blow for everyone here on the Islands.

(Uproar and laugher in the studio!!)

Always good to hear from you Inca Mark, thanks for keeping us updated on everyones second favourite team.

Is there any truth in the rumour that the thrashing at Universitario was down to the star striker being pulled off at half time?

Also can you let us know when the [****!!****]a's are due to take on Sport Boys, I've heard that Julian Clary and Graham Norton are getting up a coach for that one.......no rumours yet on who the coach is but my moneys on Arsene Wenger.

Glad to know you are fit and well Inca Mark! The shirt has been worn a couple of times now. Always to great amusement. (except from my daughter who is horror struck!)

I'll try to get a decent photograph at a game as proof and post it. Any chance of help here Dave?

I heard that Graham Norton and Julian Cleary are big fans of Sports Boys and would have gone to their last away game but they couldn't find the supporters coach. Well they disappeared after they got to the ground and were told to meet it round the back.

Happy to read, Andy, that the [****!!****]a top is wearing well. And to Señor Slartibartfast our dear aficionado of the [****!!****]as team (the Peruvians that is, not those oiks on the Kent coast) a good website to visit for Peruvian football is that of Peru's leading daily El Comercio at www.elcomercioperu.co.peru Hit the second tab (top row) EC Deporte, then Futbol and for the current season press on torneo clausura.

[****!!****]as entertain Sport Boys on October 6. The first game played at the Boys ground in Calleo (the harbour district of Lima) ended 2-2. Check out the Boys strip. They play in an awful gaudy pink - how Clarey and Norton would approve.
